MPD is having a fucking field day right now. They’re establishing the checkpoints we’re seeing. They’re rolling up at schools. The city’s encampment eviction team is bypassing local protocol & clearing camps with no notice. The Feds opened the door & the city is happily joining in.
3 vehicles (2 unmarked, 1 Secret Service) with 7 officers (vests for Metro PD, ATF, and Secret Service) outside my house in sleepy NE DC tonight. Glad to see 4 neighbors all filming for ten minutes until they uncuffed 2 neighbors and let them off with a warning.
Mayor Muriel Bowser has praised the surge and reserved her criticisms for ICE wearing masks. But tonight at a local school it was MPD who pulled up their gaiter, put on gloves, and approached me masked.
Disgraceful. And @mayorbowser.bsky.social should be ashamed for welcoming this in our communities a few days ago.

Operating an entire capital city on the paternalistic good faith of the federal government was always a huge mistake, one that is currently devastating D.C.’s residents. The perspective that the people of D.C. are real people and not some abstraction has been totally absent from The Discourse.

I live in DC, right at the Columbia Heights Metro, where ICE has made a habit of showing up in force to nab moped drivers, vendors, and people just using the metro. When you call what we're going through "a distraction" you're saying you don't value our humanity as much as an imaginary white swing.
That park police guy really gets around. I've seen him in at least three different videos. Not suprisingly, totally rude and unprofessional in each one. And that's being generous.
A very basic test of Trump's justification for sending armed officials into DC (to reduce crime) is whether its residents feel safer or not. They do not. They are not going to public spaces. They are not going to restaurants. They are more afraid of the occupiers than risks from crime.
This video makes it clear that many federal agents aren’t stopping residents based on warrants or reasonable suspicion — they’re abducting people based on racial profiling and only then releasing them once their status is verified. This is blatantly unconstitutional.
1-Occupying cities is a significant policy goal for Trump. 2-A nontrivial number of D.C. residents are afraid to leave their homes. 3-was (is) LA also a distraction or a stunt? We deserve so much better than professional Democrats.

NEW—Earlier this evening agents from ICE/other fed agencies were outside Rhode Island Ave metro in DC asking people exiting the station for their IDs, per someone who experienced it. When the person presented their Real ID license, an agent said that wasn't sufficient. Luckily they had secondary ID.
