When I was a kid I would ask my grandfather why he was doing something and his answer would sometimes be, “It keeps the elephants away”. When I told him that was silly his retort would be “Do you see any elephants?” Noem’s statement is about the same.

A couple of tranya shooters and you’ll be good.

I pity the flight attendants that have to deal with this crap.

Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
There aren’t just the costs to fit it out. There’s also costs to “de-mil” the airplane to get all the secret squirrel stuff off before the government gives up the jet. If the Trumps intend to use the jet, it will need a new airworthiness certificate. Who pays for that certification?
Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
Note the tongue sticking out. He’s also snoring.
Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
“We’ve always been at war with Eastasia.”
Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
This is patently ignorant. When the crew calls for evacuation, get off the damn jet. People die due to delayed evacuations.
Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
There are also secondary effects. If your car needs repair, Japanese parts will become more expensive. This means maintenance becomes more expensive and if insurance funded repairs become more expensive, auto insurance becomes more expensive.
Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s not imposed on Japan. It’s imposed on imported Japanese products upon landing here in the U.S.

As we have seen in the report, the switches are available for close examination.
Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
1 second. That about the amount of time it takes to move both switches with one hand sequentially due to the gates inhibiting movement without the switches being pulled over them. Screenshot from the report.
Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
The one second apart activation screams intentional movement of the switches.
Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
After further analysis, the CVR may even catch the sound of the switch movement as they are released after being pulled out to get over the “gate” (my word…I don’t know what its official designation is).
Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
How would the cutoff switches move without human action? Even the sequence of the switches moving sequentially is consistent with a person doing it as one cannot move them both at once with one hand.

I can think of a name for it.
Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
…and of course a selective fire M14 or L1A1 would not be an “assault rifle” as they are not intermediate power cartridge firearms. That also makes the whole definition thing silly by picking at minutia to say what is or is not an assault rifle.
Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
I should say “medium power” not caliber.
Darol (@darolh.bsky.social) reply parent
It came from the German word “Sturmgewehr” which is what the STG44 of WW2 (medium caliber, selective fire, detachable mag fed) was called. Using that narrow definition, the burst capable (but not full auto) M16/M14 would not be an “assault rifle”.

That’s how it’s suppose to work. The fuse plugs in the wheels melt when they get too hot from brake heat, deflating the tires so as to mitigate the possibility of a wheel/tire burst from excessive internal pressure.
