Meanwhile at their Global News division; smaller markets like Kelowna, Kingston, Petebourgh, Lethbridge & Durham are at risk of closing down while bigger markets might see several newscasts being cancelled.

Well check your tv provider, they shut 5 linear channels featuring Disney & Nickelodeon content. This is another symptom of the massive layoffs that Corus made from Global News to some radio station closures.
I don't have X anymore but several people working at Corus claimed they halted productions last Friday & the timing before the long Labour Day weekend where Corus shuts 5 TV channels based both Disney & Paramount which often buy Nelvana shows for US & international sales. bsky.app/profile/toon...

Well there goes the Cancon requirements for YTV, Treehouse & Teletoon. In contrast Wildbrain will end linear & production for Family. As for the remaining Family shows like Sailor Moon Crystal, Miraculous & 2 Lego shows might be migrated to YTV, CN Canada & Stack TV. Probably they gonna swap assets.
The last time that Corus made a merger was Shaw Media aka the former Canwest Global Communications which was bankrupt in 2009 at the height of the 2008-2009 Global Recession. The Shaw family controlled the company until Rogers merged with Shaw in 2023. Two-thirds of Corus' channels was from Canwest.

It's not a surprise at this point, but Corus will be winding down production and focusing on licensing and merchandising rather than shutting down entirely. It's really just as bad, for the most part.

New: The rumours of the storied Canadian kids TV / animation studio Nelvana shutting down are (partly) true. After winding down its existing contacts, production is now on pause, and the remaining staff will focus on managing / distributing its properties
Just giving YOU a big reminder that there is no signs or source of Nelvana shuttering, the website is still up. Never trust rumors from Twitter, as they may be a bogus and you might fall for it.
