Mister mouldy potato head went to A&E for something he could have seen a GP about straight away. All so he could cry about it online and paint himself as the victim. What a Twat.

Dude went to hospital to garner sympathy after he got arrested for saying if you see a trans woman in a bathroom you should, and I quote here, "punch him in the balls" The outcome of his little performative trip was being told it was "neither life threatening nor life changing" so nothing then.

Either way france had the biggest war chest outside of britain at the time. The dutch or spanish count have gone toe to toe with the UK over the US

I dunno France didnt fare all that well in the napoleonic wars against britain.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
True, although it's fair to say that the french were the primary funders of the war for the americans as they saw it as a way to weaken british forces that were in the process of fighting them elsewhere. Indeed by time of american independence spain was fast becoming an ally against france.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
Exactly, although the exact place of its birth is up for discussion. What isnt up for discussion is that the people who made it were brits, held British passports, considered themselves British. Tika Masala is just one of many curry dishes that pretty much exist only here.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
I blame the french. If it wasnt for them the US would never have gained independence back then and would be more like Canada.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
Dude, dont go down the "IRA were the good guys" thing hollywood did in the 80s/90s but with Scotland. Scottish independence is incredibly nuanced and there's not a clear cut right/wrong morality to this neither is there a clear cut majority either way.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
haha. You have to laugh at this dickhead. Calling us arrogant whilst simultaneously lecturing us on how ingrained our multiculturalism is let alone our cuisine. Like dude, irony isn't just something you make bridges out of.

Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
Let’s look at the evidence shall we? 1. You have repeatedly contradicted yourself in the past 24 hours so yeah your words are meaningless. 2. You have also been thoroughly owned by multiple British people in the last 24 hours. So yeah I’d say that was the first true thing you’ve posted. Congrats!

It’s unlikely the events of 1066 would have have any standing on the empire. It arguably owes more to the individual revolution which happened at the start of the empire building than it does to an invasion 700 years previous.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
Joking aside I think the answer is yes. Gb is a small island with a long history of being invaded successfully or otherwise. The idea that wouldn’t build a large navy and then use that to invade others isn’t that viable.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
You think the Angles or the Saxons didn’t get here by boat? Tbf at that point Guillaume du Normandy was only nominally French. Most of the Norman’s and their culture owed more to what we think of as Vikings than it did to France.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
So let me get this straight. People who identify as British and have British passports can invent a dish in Britain for other British people… but that’s not a British dish. Gods teeth and little fishes man.

Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
There is an argument to be made that the US only exists as an independent country is because of French colonialism. Aside from the Louisiana purchase, it’s unlikely that the US would have gained independence from the UK without both French support and British forces fighting the French elsewhere.

Our supermarkets have huge ranges of international cuisines. African, south asian, east asian, south American, Caribbean, eastern European, on top of the normal western European fare can all be found in most large stores across the country.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
The effect has been going on arguably longer than many other countries experiencing multiculturalism. It's gone on so long it's become part of our cultural DNA. We are a mongrel nation and proud of it (except for som ill informed right wing nonces).
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
It was a 2 way street though, much to the surprise of the empire. Those cultures the empire sought to colonise slowly but surely colonised the UK. It obviously was to a lesser extent (not claiming colonisation was good for the colonised obviously) but it's had a long time to work its magic.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
This is so true and especially in the UK. We were a tiny island with an oversized navy, that 300 hundred years or so ago, decided it was going to steal a bunch of the habitable land and resources worldwide. Not our finest hour, or indeed couple of centuries, to be honest.

I'm a racist for retelling a story told by a guy form Pakistan. A story that is far more believable than a chef creating a brand new sauce from scratch in the space of 5 minutes in the 70s... You fucking weirdo.

But sure I'm sure an Indian person who claimed to have invented it on national TV was a massive fucking racist. It's just a shame you, a white man on the internet who apparently knows nothing about working in a restaurant, wasn't there to tell him that.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
It's like you didn't read a single word i wrote. Yes the modern tikka masala doesn't contain soup. No the original version is not the same as dishes now. You seem so intent on calling people racists you dont actually pay attention to what people are saying you fucking melt.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm serious about that last one too. Our currency is the pound sterling but that is made from latin and french. The former being a contraction of Libra Pundo, eating for pound by weight. The Sterling comes from the Steorling, the name of a silver penny introduced by the normans.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
I mean most english food has a history elsewhere. Thats what's great about britain and what racists fail to understand. Our national dishes are from so many countries. The English flag is from turkey. Even our money is Italian and french.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
Exactly, frankly what could be more British.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
TBH mate Ive worked in a ton of kitchens. If a dickhead customer returns a dish for a bullshit reason, such as a dry dish not having a sauce, you don't spend 30 minutes knocking together a brand new dish from scratch. No you bang together 2 ingredients, pour it on top and send it back out.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
Racist how? I heard the story from the welsh chef that claimed to invent it. He was interviewed on a TV show about Britain's love of Curry. I'm sure you know better though perhaps you;d like to post a modern recipes thats gone through several refinement stages.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
Brown people cant be British then? Please do furnigsh us with a list of dishes that are purely American and not either invented by or indeed brought over by immigrants to the US. Americans update their view of britain to something more recent than the 1940s challenge... IMPOSSIBLE

She likes to salsa dont you know.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
The location of course doesn't matter, indeed it's entirely likely it could have been a case of simultaneous invention (or something near enough) in multiple restaurants.

The concept of which birthed one of the greatest comedy skits in British TV history.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
Ive heard stories of it being invented just outside of Cardiff, in Birmingham, Glasgow and Newcastle. All have the same story of a plate of Chicken Tikka being returned to the kitchen because it has no sauce to the chef added heated up some tomato soup with cream and poured it over the top.

Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
Who do you propose getting rid of then?
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
We all work short term fixed contracts usually 3-5 months and move between production companies from job to job. You have ti be able to quickly get along with peeps from a lot of backgrounds and make creatively interesting shows. The upshot is, most tv peeps are quite left wing outside of news.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
Literally everything else is made by independent production companies not the bbc. Most peeps working in TV have a specialization but the nature of the TV production market atm means we don’t have the option to stick entirely in it.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
As the majority of peeps working in newsrooms are rich white people there’s a bias towards Conservative Party thinking there which is what we see from bbc news.
Dave Daveson (@davemayhem.bsky.social) reply parent
Won’t happen. The news structure for the bbc is wildly different to the rest of it. On the bbc news side you still have a majority of salaried staff working “in house”. If the work in politics then an awful lot of them will have a goal of working for a political party in coms.
