Why are you elevating Sanders to chief Democratic strategist? No else is talking about this interview bc it's irrelevant. Bernie has some good issue framing, and some serious blind spots. But his direct influence on Dem messaging and policy peaked in 2020.

Yes, precisely, how is Sanders' view of the 2024 election relevant today? Why does this erroneous retelling need a correction? Is Sanders about to pass sweeping economic policies? Any policies at all? How does this help anti-Trump folks defeat Trump?

Not really living up to the lofty Lincoln Square dot com header: "Where facts, experts, fearless media, and the ferocious opposition meet. We're fighting back against the American autocratic movement and fighting forward to create the America we all deserve. Join us."
David Sloane (@davidcsloane.bsky.social)
How is this relevant? Are Sanders' economic policies about to be implemented? @lincolnsquare.media who is this for? How is it fighting Trump and the GOP? Is the point of the Lincoln Project, and affiliates like Lincoln Square, to stop Trump? Or to fragment the not-Trump coalition?
David Sloane (@davidcsloane.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure, but there's no shortage of popular policies, with good long-term results. The information environment is continuing to degrade, while many institutions are trying to wait out fasciam. Courage and truth are in short supply.

IRS direct filing is a great idea, but it doesn't go far enough. How about this? On or before 3/1, the IRS sends their calc. If you do nothing, that's your filing on 4/15, and they send you a bill or check. If you file on time, your filing gets used. If you're late but unhappy, you can appeal.

Absolutely - people come out for the candidate but they come back for the community. Zohran and his organizers are building community, which creates field capacity, which supports voter ID/persuasion/GOTV. If the stars align, the local party committees and hierarchies will change too.

The article - www.theguardian.com/commentisfre... - calls for a more consistent Left populism, popular with many voting blocs, like younger and infrequent voters. "Corporate" dollars are easy to raise. if we believe in the things we say, Dems have to fight for the poor and marginalized.
David Sloane (@davidcsloane.bsky.social) reply parent
Fealty to the wealthiest Americans is bad for Democrats, it conflicts with most Dem policies and beliefs. The fact that personal wealth wasn't an electoral problem for Trump is a separate phenomenon. Republicans revere wealth and the wealthy - ideally that's a difference between the parties.

My uninformed guess is that stressors on individuals have increased in number. There are more crises, more risks. It's harder for people to operate on higher level needs - self actualization, esteem, love & belonging - while focusing instead on safety and physiological needs.
