I don't want to start a thing so I'll just say that there will never be a good argument for privatizing USPS. That would be like privatizing libraries. The aim of services isn't to be run for profit, they are for serving the greater good, which USPS has been extremely successful at.

I hate the argument that AI is being used in lots of jobs so students have to learn how to use it in school. AI is not that hard to use. Lots of jobs also use job-specific convoluted enterprise software and we don't teach them how to use those in school.
The organizer said if you had gotten one person, that's a good start but the thing to remember is that you have to KEEP getting at least one person to every meeting from here on out. There were many lessons in that for me. I still think about this all of the time.
When I was a very young organizer in the late 80s, I was being organized and moved up the ladder of engagement. The person who was organizing me gave me a task of recruiting at least 8 people to a future meeting. This is pre-FB, social media etc... I got 5 people to come & was disappointed.

as someone with a lot of organizing experience, i can promise you that misinformation like this makes actual organizing more difficult. people don’t know what information to trust, and they’re also disincentivized to show up because they think there are blockades that aren’t actually there

IMO the biggest differences between universities are: - does the library have books (not only digital subscriptions) and a budget - are there staff for support/admin work or is it someone’s second job - do students have time to study and faculty time to teach No big names or tech matter as much.
Not to sound cynical but it’s hard not to think that a lot of costly projects undertaken by universities that can’t afford them function mostly in the end as CV-builders for senior admin on the rise up and out. Meanwhile things they might have kept or built on collapse

It’s also easy to get frustrated by this stuff and conclude the problem is ‘everyone’ or ‘liberals’ and I don’t think either is right.
Not just that we are having parallel conversations that only appear to be about the same thing, but that people in the liberal anti-politics camp insist on telling the rest of us that our focus is wrong.
And while the specifics may not be typical, this style of approaching political discourse (a form of anti-politics) is fairly common.
