I feel like in the 1980’s/90’s this would be a major plot point in a Tom Clancy novel, and the operation would be carried out as an off-book, illegal black op, with various characters trying to cover it up lest they face congressional hearings. Now the President just announces it.

Where I live, in D.C., the Trump administration just effectively repealed our gun laws by refusing to enforce restrictions on AR-15s and public carry. It's a two-way street, right? The next Democratic administration should declare a nationwide ban on assault weapons. It's an emergency, after all.

NONE of these plans are any more extreme than what Trump is currently doing with the help of the Supreme Court. If Trump can shut down the Department of Education and CFPB, President AOC can shut down ICE. If Trump can kill green energy projects, President Newsom can kill the fossil fuel industry.

Impound ICE's funding and redirect the money toward mass refugee resettlement. Cut off federal funding to states with draconian abortion laws and use the money to build reproductive health clinics in those states instead. End oil and gas subsidies then funnel the money to green energy projects.

Other things the next Democratic president should claim a prerogative to do unilaterally: •establish Medicare for All •forgive all student loans •legalize weed •mandate nationwide non-partisan redistricting It's an emergency! And he's the duly elected commander-in-chief! That's how this works now.

I’d add: - abolish the senate and - electoral college. - Current Supreme Court would be become the high court and with an expectation of its partisanship. - a constitutional court would be there to review the high court’s decisions.

If I walk up to an ATM with a fake card and hack it to give me free cash, I didn't persuade anything. ChatGPT is no less a machine and the language we should use to accurately describe what is going on within a business publication should be the same industry standard language we've used for years.

Machines are not persuadable because they lack the capability to make decisions. ChatGPT followed input instructions in a way that resulted in an incorrect output according to the rules OpenAI has stated it should operate under. It's no more persuaded than 3 'persuading' 4 to add up to 7.

Great post on the AI boom’s blessing & curse. Demand’s so hot Nvidia, Google & Microsoft can’t build GPUs and data centers fast enough. But that same demand is killing margins, features like Deep Research use 100x the compute of last year’s chats. Even $200/month isn’t enough to make the math work

Tesla investors are like a doomsday cult, every time the promised future doesn’t happen, they just move the goalposts. Dojo was hyped as a $600B unlock in 2023 by analysts. It was cancelled this month as an “evolutionarily dead end” according to Musk. The stock price actually went up that day. 😁

It may signal to people that the democrat is conservative (non-reactionary) or more centrists. Nothing is stopping democrats from co-opting the branding of the old Republican Party.

I sometimes wonder what liberals and leftist can do to invert the branding of reactionary party’s brand. Take for example the color red. It’s the color that brands a candidate or congressional member as a republican. But nothing is stopping from a democrat to brand themselves in the color red.

You spelled ENDANGERING wrong, @nytimes.com. “Pushing the boundaries” is a *positive* frame implying unconventional innovations. There are no innovations here. Just medieval anti-science populist attacks on some of best methods of truth seeking we have.

How the Trump-Kennedy Alliance Is Pushing the Boundaries of Public Health The mutually beneficial relationship between President Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is based on a striking alignment of some of their views. The two exchanges crystallized the mutually beneficial nature of the relationship between the two men, an alliance driven by political calculation and a striking alignment of some of their views. Their ties have empowered Mr. Kennedy to push the boundaries of public health and science with the support of the president, who in turn benefits from Mr. Kennedy’s coalition of followers opposed to vaccines and health mandates.
