Civil society is the guardrails—news organizations, universities, churches, prof organizations, foundations, other nonprofits, etc—not industry. This is not a new idea. They fought back in Trump’s first term. A primary goal in his second term is to crush these groups and leave society defenseless.

Is it possible they (stupidly) hoped lower courts would unquestioningly implement the implicit guidance and/or intentionally sowed confusion to foster conditions to justify the extraordinary action?
David Ryan Miller (@davidryanmiller.com) reply parent
I think if you asked them, they'd say something like "lots of confusion in the lower courts (*that we caused*), time-sensitive issue, it is imperative that we intervene to provide clear guidance." At base though, I think they're just drunk on power and want to manifest UET ASAP.
