Kicking off the new academic year tomorrow with a hands-on making session . . . a group of teachers have asked me to help them explore fossils through 3D making. It's a bit like asking the Cookie Monster to do training about biscuits. πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜† www.darrellwakelam.com #edusky

A montage of photos of 3D sculptures of fossil ammonites. I've made so many over the years so the photos here span about 20 years worth of work. There are photos of work that children have made and also examples that I have made myself.

The Pacman Nebula, officially known as NGC 281, is an emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. It is named for its resemblance to the classic 1980s video game character. This vast cloud of ionized gas is a star-forming region located approximately 9,200 light-years away in our galaxy's Perseus Spiral Arm. The Andromeda Galaxy (M31) is the closest major spiral galaxy to our own Milky Way, located about 2.5 million light-years away. It is the largest and most massive member of the Local Group of galaxies, which includes the Milky Way, Andromeda, the Triangulum Galaxy, and about 50 other smaller galaxies. NGC 1027 is an open star cluster located in the constellation Cassiopeia. Discovered by William Herschel in 1787, it appears visually positioned between the famous Heart and Soul nebulae, though it is not physically associated with them The Pleiades, or M45, is a dazzling open star cluster located in the constellation Taurus. Here’s our capture of NGC 7023 – the Iris Nebula 🌌. Located about 1,300 light-years away in Cepheus, the Iris glows as starlight reflects off cosmic dust, illuminating the surrounding dark interstellar clouds. πŸ” What do you see when you look into the Iris? #Astrophotography #Nebula #SpaceLovers

✨ The Cave Nebula (Sh2-155) Captured over 21 hours of exposure time (and still adding more!), this cosmic cloud lies about 2,400 light-years away in Cepheus. Its dark dust lanes and glowing gas create the illusion of a celestial cave, where new stars are born. #astrophotography

When magnetic fields near sunspots get twisted and tangled, they can suddenly snap and release energy, that’s a solar flare. Sunspots don’t directly β€œcause” flares, they’re the areas where flares are most likely to erupt. If that makes sense?

Absolutely. Always do things to bring you inner peace and happiness. The rest will be what it will be! My baking is average at best haha. But Jonny and Isaac enjoy it when I get time to do it haha

In the end, It will boil down to personal choice people have to make between wanting to purchase art created by someone's hand or a computer. But again, it's all so subjective, isn't it? If you are an artist you'll always be an artist. That won't be lost amongst the world's technological advances ❀️

I think AI has its place and has made brilliant impacts, however if you are a creative person, that won't be taken from you, that's yours to keep forever. There are bakery shops that can cook 10x better than I ever will, but do I still bake? Yes! Because I make for myself, it makes me happy.

Still catching up with data I've captured over the last few weeks. This is Mars through my 8" SCT a few weeks ago, on a night of quite good seeing. The planet shows as a gibbous phase as it was only 2 weeks from Eastern quadrature (which occurred yesterday, 21st Apr) πŸ”

Mars on a night of good seeing. Getting small now as it's distance from Earth increases. Eastern quadrature was last night (21st Apr) when the angle between the Sun-Earth-Mars system is 90Β°. At this point Mars appears as a noticeable gibbous phase
