This sounds a bit better as Monday afternoon background music.
Here for the music and random space stuff

Heck of a thunderstorm out there. Need to think of storm suitable music to get through the afternoon of work.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Which would probably elicit the same response from your wife. 🙂 Have a good week Ricky. it's all looking up for you from this point.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Joni had finished her set, walked off stage and through the campsite but has now run back to do an encore and is out of breath so has apologised to the crowd. Proper gigs in the newly begun 70s.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Most people are trying to avoid the abyss on Sunday night so fair play for tackling it head on with a big slab of brooding gothic nihilism. Puts my Sunday night cosy TV watching approach to shame.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Hah, that made me laugh. By comparison I've just watched the end of the antiques roadshow. To take the edge of the Sunday blues.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Stumbled across Joni Mitchell from IOW festival 1970 on sky arts. A massive crowd, I'm surprised they could hear her at the back. She just asked for more volume. Fortunately the camera is nearly always on her with none of that crowd cutaway shot nonsense you get nowadays.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Blimey, this isn't a Sunday night type of album. Or perhaps it is.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
The spiders hiding around the house have started fighting. False widow Vs cellar spider. False widow had the upper hand before I put them both out.

Second track on among my swan album.

I've been a bit hooked on flowers in December recently.

Something in the night is one hell of a song.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Definitely bob holness on saxophone though.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
No worries. I'll expect less posts until you are fully recovered.

Name 5 albums that had the biggest impact on your life. Appetite for destruction Sgt peppers Best of the smiths (yes, I know) If you're feeling sinister: Belle and Sebastian Boxer: The National This is today's list.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Really sorry to hear this. Glad it got caught early on and you have a recovery plan. Wish you well for a speedy recovery.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Tried some of the weird slowdive album that no one ever listens to during a dead of night attempt to get back to sleep. Not sure it helped. Pygmalion by slowdive.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Out of nowhere I have an earworm of mid 80s brat pack film theme St Elmos fire. Now I will have to play it to make it go away, which is a bit troubling. Soft rock classic coming up.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
I like free as a bird and real love. Probably to do with being the only Beatles singles I could buy on release day.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Metallica come on stage to the ecstasy of gold.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Thanks for the replies about bands who share lead vocals. Still amazed this is so uncommon. But we have The Beatles, oasis, BRMC, joy zipper, ride, teenage fanclub, Ringo deathstarr, go betweens, delgados, voice of the beehive, wolf parade. Now to think up a catchy name to describe such groups.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
If it wasn't for thunder road then meeting across the river would be the best song here. Or maybe backstreets 🙂
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
I don't know them Joe, but thanks for responding I'll check them out.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Thanks Tarik. A band I dip in and out of. Good nomination. I'm still struck by how uncommon it is given how many bands there are.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Oasis sprung to mind but I thought Noel only sang a few as I lost interest during the second album. Turns out he sang on quite a lot. The AI search tells me 24%. So not Beatles level split but a good shout.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
I'll take your word for it. You could argue the Beatles were shared vocals in many instances.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
A blast from the past. Did Voice of the beehive alternate the lead each track or was it more shared vocals.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Thanks. Had a Delgado blue sky chat only yesterday.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Thanks I know of them but haven't heard all them. I'd forgotten about joy zipper.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Random thought but why have there been no other groups since the Beatles that have split lead vocals on songs roughly 50/50 across their output? Or have there been and I missed it.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
I really liked their early stuff. Even though I'm too old for it. There was so much variety early on I was interested to see what direction they'd take. But they don't make music for me and seem very genuine. Check out their "pool sessions" on you tube from a few years back, great fun.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Must be the day for this album. I posted similar earlier. I like their first album but diminishing returns for me after it. This is major label polished with the grunge edges completely gone now. I like a female led guitar band doing well so all the best to them. I'm not the target audience.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Or an iron maiden fan and the prisoner is their favourite track. Yes the song is about the TV series.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
I'd forgotten all about this album. I even saw them perform it at union chapel back in the day but not one I've revisited in a very long time. Thanks for posting it.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Whilst I loved the debut and its associated singles as it reminded me of belly/breeders/pixies, I didn't really like the follow up albums. This is a bit too glam/mainstream for me but they are a very likeable band and I wish them continuing success. Wolf Alice: The Clearing
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
I can't be done with his funky stuff but his acoustic and laid back albums are well worth the time.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
I need more mazzy star type music at the moment. Even better if they are currently active and I go see them.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Mutations is a great album.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Introduce yourself with the last 5 concerts you saw. Not sure why but turned into a summer of rock for me after a long gap Smashing pumpkins Iron maiden Guns n Roses Forever now festival Smyths (smiths tribute)

I still don't understand why gig tickets go on sale online during most people's working hours.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
You know I need you, like a poet needs the pain.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
A bit of Sunday morning listening. Good for any time really. Mazzy star, she hangs brightly
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
A bit of Roy Orbison and Springsteen before motd.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
I'm breaking the sanctions to listen to this. Blankenberge Decisions.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Teen bought vinyl for his mate. Took 45 mins to find Blue Lines in HMV. Trip hop apparently a made up thing and not even a category. Finally found under miscellaneous. I haven't bought a record in 30 years but my offer of the original CD, buried in the loft somewhere, was rejected.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Cherub rock, though. youtu.be/q-KE9lvU810?...

Spiders everywhere. I thought September was the spiders coming indoor month.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
You'd better let Eddie Cochran know.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Smashing pumpkins set list. The teen was pleased as they played the hits.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Big shout out to the British Sign Language people who had the unenviable task of interpreting Billy Corgan's lyrics for 2 hours last night. I don't have hearing issues but they certainly caught people's attention. Here's a pic of them early on underneath big billy.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
More smashing pumpkins in blue and red. A ferocious set of songs and a very bizarre cover. No Sunday night blues after that
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
God bless the late queen Elizabeth II and her handy tube line. Smashing pumpkins next stop!
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Gig tickets are going full circle. Here is the ticket in the app but as everyone else will be also using the network it might not work. So add a static version to Google wallet. Better still here is a pdf that will work. Maybe we will send you a paper ticket next time...
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Working out how to get to and from a gig on the day. That.

I'll give this a listen Nathan. I caught the chameleons at the forever now festival last month but I've never known much about them.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Ah, he's obviously between the psychedelic and abbey road double denim look. A shame those shoes didn't appear on the abbey road cover.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Only George could get away with it. Doesn't he need new shoes at some point and sends a lackey out to get them? To be fair to my teens the London crowd shots show the drabness of everyday non Beatles folk.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Had to explain to my teens that those were real 60s clothes colours and the film hadn't been colourised and it wasn't just a Beatles costume thing. Also none of them are brothers but they get that now.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Listening to this again. Like the stereo mindgame album it washes over me and I can't remember individual songs or lyrics afterwards but it's an enjoyable afternoon listening. Daughter: Middle Farm sessions.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Now playing elbowrooms by elbow. Nice versions of new and old favourites. A great lockdown album. Thanks to @seaofdays.bsky.social for reminding me of this.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes and an album called elbowrooms on streaming services.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
This was released late July and I'm just catching up. It's rather lovely. Blankenberge : Decisions. A Russian shoegaze band if you didn't know.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
I will revisit. With 25 years hindsight it may be better than I thought.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
There is a great version of it that they did in lockdown. Probably still available on you tube. I didn't actually get this album at the time.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
I was such a big fan of theirs until this album which I didn't like at all. After that I felt it was very patchy output but I got back into them recently. I don't think I've played this since it came out.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
It's a top song.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Not summery today but back from holiday so listening to this now quite old summery album. From a band who seemed to disappear as quickly as they arrived. The thrills: so much for the city
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Bit of a theme there. Mazzy star help the working day go by for me.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Off to bed, live aid will have to wait. I've put the video tape in to record the rest
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
I'm no fan but I can see why U2 became so huge.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Thank goodness Phil Collins has finished at Wembley. That's the last we'll see of him so I can enjoy the US version of live aid in peace.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Sounds like a cool teacher. A quo nativity would be a good idea for one of those "based on the music of" theatre shows.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Let's face it no one is going to top the quo.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Hey everyone, stop playing outside, live aid is starting on the TV. You can play footy during Phil Collins.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
It's great isn't it. The beeb show it every 6 months and I always get sucked in to watching it. Lap of the gods should have been a massive queen hit
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Happy birthday Ricky. Enjoy the holiday.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes it's good. The EPs in the run up to madra were better than some of the tracks on the album. I often gig solo and would be the weird old guy at the back of the teeny fans I imagine. I did notice they were touring.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Change of mood. Now playing the tracks released so far from the new Newdad album: Altar. They have reverted to a 3 piece and I'm far too old to see them live, but hopefully this will be as good as the last album.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
A blast of summery pop from Belinda for today. A special guest packed album with tracks featuring George Harrison on guitar and Bryan Adams on backing vocals.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
I thought it was Widnes, isn't there a blue plaque there? Maybe many stations in the northwest claim the honour. Or he wrote verses as he passed through a number of stations.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Hot day so summery vibes from Kurt Vile this morning. Incredibly from all the way back in 2013. Wakin on a pretty daze.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Caught a few glimpses of Rocky III on the way home courtesy of the guy next to me who had the subtitles in large font whilst watching it on his phone. 1982 me would never have believed it possible.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
On a late stage mazzy star groove this afternoon. Still regretting paying them little attention when they were active and missing the chance to see them.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Inspired by seeing the death cult version of the cult a few weeks back I played this today for the first time in about 30 years. Not sure why I've left it so long.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Ending my maiden long tail with this great metal concept album. I still remember the joy when the singles from it crashed into the top 5 meaning that the smashie and nicey radio 1 DJs had to awkwardly introduce them on ToTP. Iron maiden: Seventh son of a seventh son.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Same here it just reached 28. I'm only consoled by the fact the outside thermometer is showing 32.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social) reply parent
Thanks for the top 10 Ricky.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Crowd shots. Just show the band. Old man moan for today over.
Darren S (@dazegazer.bsky.social)
Iron Maiden. Bringing out the 15 year old in all of us. Exceeded my expectations and the number of costume changes would rival any west end show. Here's the crew meeting their fate during the spooky slow bit in Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner. Coleridge would have approved.
