Retail jobs were better in the 90s and 00s before corporations cut staff down to skeleton crews with generic job titles who have to fulfill online orders on top of running everything else. If you work retail now, you're doing the job of 6 people in the 90s for the same pay (adjusted for inflation).
Why I thought of this: after years of enduring block scheduling I'm back to a traditional schedule and it is so liberating from a human perspective. Seeing more focus from kids, more engagement, and it collides beautifully with a goal of mine to reduce screen time in class whenever possible.
Needed: a study on the rise of block scheduling (I.e., longer classes, fewer periods) in middle and high schools and its influence in class on more plug-n-play screen time, fewer teacher-student and student-student interactions. #edsky
