Greetings from Kyiv. I managed to sleep a little, and even wake up. Kyiv survived a terrible attack. Residential buildings and sleeping people were the target. As of now, 8 people have been killed. I need a warcoffee.

Evening in Kyiv. I went out and bought some chocolate. I’m not really into chocolate, but I today I needed to sweeten either my body or my life. The death toll in Kyiv has risen to 19. People may still be trapped under the rubble.

For the record, our division commander BANNED things called “presence patrols” in Iraq. “If you don’t have a specific task & purpose, your ‘presence’ doesn’t do anything.” National Guard stating they are now doing presence patrols in DC. A complete waste of soldier’s time & effort.

Something about Ukrainian food. Hutsul banosh (on the left) is creamy cornmeal cooked with sour cream and topped with brynza. It was born in the Carpathians. Deruny are grated potato pancakes, fried till crispy and served with sour cream - popular in the western and northern regions of Ukraine.

Today, we went to the mountains for a few hours. One of the guides (a milk-haired man in a jacket once blue) told us about opryshky, mountain rebels who fought against feudal oppression in the Carpathians from the 16th to the 19th century. I’ll look into it more. Coming soon in one of my letters.
