Incomes were not growing at 8% a year, that is true. But now inflation is around 2% and average weekly earnings are rising at 4.4%.
Three years ago the rate of inflation was 8.1%. Last month it was 1.9%. This is the front page of the National Post this morning.

It is not clear why Trump repeatedly claims the US subsidizes Canada by $200 billion a year. A trade deficit isn’t a subsidy — but in any event, the US trade deficit in goods and services with Canada last year was about $36 billion. Here’s the data (source: US govt)

Jack makes an important point. In Canada, you don't have a prime minister trying to rewrite the voting rules by executive order. You have laws, passed by parliament. You have Elections Canada, charged with implementing those laws on a non-partisan basis. There's much less room for nonsense.

No need to apologize. I appreciate the reply. Believe me -- I DESPISE the way misinformation and lies are circulated and amplified (on X and other places). It's incredibly dangerous. You say you want facts and truth to matter. You and I want exactly the same thing.
It said journalists can write BS drivel and keep their jobs. Maybe that is true at some places. It's not true at the news organization I work for, nor at many others. I know how hard my colleagues work to try to get the facts right, and they are full of commitment and integrity.
Are there problems in journalism? Yes. Lots of studies show that trust in journalists has gone down over the past decade. Believe me, I'm not blind to that. There are a number of reasons for it. Your original post, however, said something different... (1/2)

Canada has taken in hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians since Russia's invasion in Feb. 2022.
As for the new Ukraine policy -- that only increases the skepticism here about dealing with the US. There are about 1.3m people of Ukrainian background in Canada (~3% of population). We all know somebody. Ukrainian flags are everywhere in my neighbourhood.
So anyway, the idea that Canadians would peacefully welcome annexation or union with the US is a pure fantasy, one that exists only in febrile minds. But the damage that's being done to relationships, to trust, and to US business interests in Canada, is real. Do Americans understand this?
