I've heard arguments for and against, but in the end the disenfranchising of people can and should result in tailored businesses that flip the script. From a purely capitalistic point of view a business owner could sat "The customers others throw away are my profit margin."
What I don't understand, and I admit it may be ignorance on my part, is why there are no smaller to mid size businesses jumping in here and taking advantage of customers from a disenfranchised demographic? Any local credit union could take advantage of this blunder to get new members.
