Mainstream was a great, and ridiculously badmouthed by the music press, album. I keep saying (I swear I'm not a hipster) this sort of thing, but I saw them in Manchester promoting the album. Great concert, but the venue was a theatre with velvet flip-up seats that made taking part almost impossible.

It's strange. Maybe I would have been if 10 years younger, or perhaps they missed "something" even though they produced really good songs.
Maybe I was getting 'mature', but I never felt like an Ash fan even though every song I heard was brilliant. This is probably my favourite of a clutch of theirs.

My slight criticism is the St George Cross looks too good. Most appear to be a single spray can line by some inebriate (I'm sure they're sober, really) in the dead of night. Who then swayingly steps back to admire and, drawing on his education, gargles "look upon my work, ye mighty, and despair".
