I predict it will have something to do with doctors routinely recommending tylenol over ibuprofen (and other NSAIDs) in pregnancy because it's safer.

Hi. I know I've said this before, but it bears repeating: we have to be able to criticize Mark Carney without living in fear that doing so will help Poilievre or weaken Canada. He is our Prime Minister. Out of anyone, he deserves to be watched and critiqued. We should all be dying on this hill.

RFK's loves reanimating old zombie pseudoscience from crunchy mom spaces. He doesn't have any original ideas, but he has deep connections to anti-vax mama culture.
Michelle Cohen (@docmcohen.medsky.social)
Prediction: it's mom's fault for wanting pain relief and it's mainstream medicine's fault for promoting folic acid supplementation (instead of "all-natural" folate). Tl;dr version: Big Pharma and bad moms = autism
Michelle Cohen (@docmcohen.medsky.social) reply parent
I first saw this rhetoric in crunchy mom spaces over a decade ago. Tylenol is routinely blamed for everything under the sun and folic acid supplementation in pregnancy is often vilified as well.

Michelle Cohen (@docmcohen.medsky.social)
This is how political partisanship melts people's brains. Any behaviour can be rationalized so long as it's MY team doing it. Hosting a fascist? Well that's bad if the OTHER team does it, but if MY team is doing it then it must be for good reasons only. You need a moral compass, not a team.
Michelle Cohen (@docmcohen.medsky.social) reply parent
Many of these same people will also use their unexamined survivor bias to claim that we shouldn't have spent so much on the COVID response in the first place. Even though we absolutely embarrassed ourselves globally with our dismal LTC mortality rates.

this, plus usually when people say "during covid" they mean "when there were government interventions that impacted my life" so I will say something that distinguishes this from the impact of the virus itself
Michelle Cohen (@docmcohen.medsky.social) reply parent
Yup. Also I sometimes think/write about it as the period of time when govts around the world were engaged in meaningful tracking of cases, hospitalization, and mortality. It was a unique time of data transparency that went in the complete opposite direction after early 2022.

Three times/day is hard to remember for most people, it usually means taking meds with you to work. And this is a nasal spray, which many people find gross. And also for prevention, not treatment, which means even less incentive to remember it in the middle of the day.
Michelle Cohen (@docmcohen.medsky.social) reply parent
I say "early years of COVID" or something similar to refer to the first 2 yrs. Also: "prior to the widespread ending of COVID mitigations." Another useful distinction is "pre-vaccine period" to capture the intensity of 2020 specifically.
