Making the playoffs isn’t enough to save their jobs. They’d need a deep run to do that, and the odds of that happening are infinitesimal. I think they would have had more job security if they started AR and were able to show growth and development with him. More QB carousel is franchise purgatory.

Given the situation, I hope your backup CBs pick Danny Dimes like 6 times in week 1. That might be the only way to get AR back on the field. I’d bet the farm on Miami.
If you had, you’d know that he did a lot of work on his mechanics this offseason. He’s been much more accurate and is throwing more touch passes (instead of all 100mph fastballs). He’s never gonna be a 75% completion kinda guy, but even 60-65% makes him a serviceable starter given his other traits.

Their jobs are and always have been tied to developing AR onto a legit QB. Steichen knew and agreed with the pick before taking the job. AR was Ballard’s last chance at QB. DJ isn’t buying them anything past this year. But if they develop AR and get us the division, Steichen and Ballard live on.
Might have more to do with AR’s hesitation in the read option which allowed the lineman to illegally block downfield before the pass.
