I legit love the System Shock 2 HUD. If I had the ability to put some kind of HUD up in VR, it would absolutely be that one.

Proton worked really well when I tried dual-booting last year, but trying to mod anything required the kind of machinations that make me want to flee the industrialized world for a cave and a herd of goats.
Part of me wants to just nuke my Windows 11 machine and do all of my gaming on Linux, but I still remember what a pain in the DICK trying to do Skyrim modding was. Wabbajack only occasionally sort of potentially works and I never could get Mod Organizer to work.

See, that's completely awesome. I love my house. I love the aesthetic, I love what we've done to it, and the whole nine. But sometimes I think I would have liked a less "standard" build.

Goddamnit, I want a remaster of Disgaea 2, and I want it to use the same style of ground indicator as the PS2 version, not the dumb fucking Steam version.
I want to love them in the original, but I just can't tell where the fuck I'm supposed to go. I keep looking for a mod that helps. Even just making walls close to you partially transparent would help. It's just so disorienting otherwise. They fucking slap in the remake, though.

I'm having so much trouble building arm strength. I'm not having any trouble at all with legs, back, or shoulders, but being this tall with arms this long is apparently making it a lot more difficult.

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who knows of Gazillionaire. I spent a LOT of time as a teenager playing it. I went so far as to find it on Steam when my Windows 95-era CD of it stopped working on Windows 11, and I still play it to this day.
Man, I started an SS2:EE run as OSA, because I've never messed around much with psi stuff before, and I think I may have to restart, because this shit is WAY harder than the other two career paths.
Post weird games that you love. It's an objectively awful game. I can admit that. But it's so goofy that it kind of doesn't matter. And the SFX are so bizarre that it's wonderful.

I feel like you're taking my opinion as some kind of disapproval or denigration of the game when that isn't the case.
Really? I'll admit I'm not done with the game yet, but every level I've played but one has had at least one large arena, and one level is basically a Halo map with demons. I think 2016 is the closest to the original personally.
DA has some of those things, but it feels to me like it's tipping the see-saw over towards old-school arena shooter territory. Every time I drop onto a giant field for a fight, I start thinking about Serious Sam and Painkiller.
When I think of Doom, I think of frenetic fights in mostly close quarters. I think of a horror sci-fi story where you are completely alone relatively thinly applied over action. I think of secret hunting and ammo management.
Classifying a game isn't the same as scoring it.
I already said it's a good game. But in the same way that I'd say Serious Sam 2 isn't a Quake game, I don't think DA is really a DooM game. It's set in the universe, but I think it's a fundamentally different thing.
I can't tell you why Mario doesn't get analyzed the same way, but DooM definitely isn't unique in being pored over.

I have a hard time figuring out what connects DA back. It's a good game (except for the goddamn turret sections and the flight mechanics), but I think it's trying to be something fundamentally different.
Like, at what point has the formula changed so much that the new thing is no longer recognizable as the original one? Everything after 2 has leaned into some specific aspect of the original games, whether it was horror (3 and 2016), the UAC story (2016), or the frenetic pace (Eternal).
I'm (mostly) enjoying it, but I can definitely sympathize with the "it's not DooM" argument. I don't think that makes it a bad game, I just think it's trying to be something that DooM never really tried to be. It feels more like Painkiller meets Serious Sam meets Hexen to me.
9 is so good. I'm really looking forward to playing it again as I go through all of the mainline games.

Dark Souls is a rewarding experience with good story, excellent controls, and a very tolerant community.
