In their spare time, my department colleagues… …read 3 books a week …make custom furniture …practice karate (black belt!) …play in a band (with regular gigs!) …learn piano …learn tap dancing …compete in dressage and probably a bunch more things. We’re a fun group!

Yeah so do I. There is so much variation in the workloads of faculty that it’s really unhelpful to just paint the entire profession as struggling with balance, or that the job by nature is incompatible with work life balance. I just don’t think that’s true.

I remember reading this paper. If the authors said the data would be on GitHub they either lied or misunderstood, because you can’t just post the ABCD data online. It’s protected access. That’s no excuse for the missing code though

What bothers me about the reviews themselves is the lack of quality control. So many reviews are not very thoughtful, or focus on scientifically unimportant issues Editors rarely know what to expect before issuing invites. This is a problem at all journals and compromises the purpose of review.
