I really need folk to understand that perimenopause is real but doesn't last 15 years and is just the medical communities' new "hysteria" and "wandering womb". Insist on blood work and scans anyway but ESPECIALLY if you are under 45 with no family history of early menopause.

I remember when the Columbine massacre happened and very serious media and political figures deliberately hid the fact that the shooters were neo-Nazis and claimed that they did it because they were bullied (they weren’t) and that they wore black clothes. Just thought I’d mention that

Obviously yes you should read Andrea Long Chu’s latest for all the usual reasons (thrillingly blistering assessment of worthy target) — but these two somewhat standalone paragraphs exploring the true nature of American free speech left me absolutely gobsmacked www.vulture.com/article/post...

There is, I think, a compelling case to be made that the American political tradition thinks of free speech not as the basis of a free press but as an instance of it. A newspaper is not a giant person; a person is more like a little newspaper. If this is so, then the vast majority of Americans have low budgets, limited circulation, and few dedicated readers, even in the age of social media. In other words, speech is a resource, not an inalienable property, and as such it is subject to the same regimes of theft, privatization, and accumulation that have swallowed up the labor of workers and the fruits of the earth. We have heard much lately about when free speech ends: the moment when protesting for Palestine becomes grounds for detention or deportation in the eyes of the police state, for instance. Less often asked, but equally important, is when speech begins. Did instance. Less often asked, but equally important, is when speech begins. Did Cotton's speech begin the moment that the Times published his op-ed? During the editorial process? When Bennet's deputies pitched the idea? At what point, in other words, did the ordinary flow of money, labor, and influence through civil society stop? Well, never. To say that Cotton was too important not to publish is to say that he enjoyed a certain social position that deserved the paper's famously discriminating attention. From the start, Cotton had more than free speech: He had actual speech, the very thing that protesters were being denied all across the country. One of the principal goals of the protests of 2020 was therefore to seize the means of expression: protesters were not exercising their right to speak freely so much as they were trying to amass a form of social influence that could meaningfully compete at a national level. In other words, they were starting a newspaper; what Williams hates is that people started reading it. The fact is that telling a voiceless person they have free speech is like telling a poor person they have freedom of money: Nice work if you can get it! Williams might respond that a person who finds their ability to speak curtailed does not thereby lose their capacity to think.

Buying redemption w/ eels wasn't just a medieval English thing. Oh, no! In 1500 the Duke of Ferarra wanted nuns in Florence to pray for him. But that kinda thing ain't free, & to get his prayers the duke had to make regular payments of eels to the sisters. Soul food, y'all. 🗃️🧪

Meme. Portrait d'Alphonse dEste, Duke of Ferarra, by Titian. The Duke is a big man -- possibly even portly -- with gray hair and a trimmed beard. He is wearing sumptuous, trimmed with fur. His sleeves are gold, and his left hand is resting on a sword at his side. The way his fingers are resting, he seems to be flipping you off. He probably is. With his right arm, the Duke is leaning casually on the end of a large cannon, which also looks a little like a giant top hat. This makes it easy to imagine him not as a warlike duke, but as a circus ringmaster. He would not like that thought. The Duke's nose is somewhat flat, as if he'd run hard into a wall, and though he is faced towards your left his eyes are cutting back to you. His expression says he doesn't hate you; he might even be a little curious. But he's skeptical about your motives, and probably your appearance. You better have a good reason for interrupting Cannon Time. Meme text reads:

The Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 created the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. I reread it today; nothing in the law allows a president to defund PBS and NPR. In fact, Congress specifically sought to insulate public media from political pressure.

This is also true but when bullshitters have poisoned a term (that was always a little inaccurate and aspirational anyway) the answer is to dump the term. Professions change lingo for HR reasons every 5 years anyway. Describe the useful bits as different from the AI fakery with new terms.

Do not for the love of anything you hold holy use "AI" for any kind of home school teacher substitute. Use perfectly acceptable proven "learn at home" static lesson plans and pedagogies - no one can follow how the AIs "communicate and teach" each other 3-4 gens in. You can autodidact without AI.

And this is why you cannot use AI "for research" You don't know what you don't know. You won't be able to tell anything at all is wrong if you think AI "just summarizing" It takes info in nonlinear ways and then outputs like a translation

A president cannot restructure a Federal Department to a Cabinet member. Only Congress can do the thing he wants done. A president cannot control federal spending or make laws or declare war. They can't do any of those things. Report that too.
