I’d be interested in that. I generally hesitate to get too intrusive into any writer’s life, but sometimes it can provide some real insight (as I think it does with the later Macdonald novels). And I do need to check out Mrs. Millar’s works!

My grandmother ALSO did not batter her chicken. I have the sneaking suspicion she did not do so because (1) works fine for a one-meal dinner just to use flour! And (2) while tasty, not her signature dish. Secret (3): make the other neighbors do the work for potlucks and take the leftovers! 😎
Since we’re neighbors and all! Although I did just spell it “Missippians” because that’s how I say it, but I regret nothing. I was once asked (it was not an insult) if I was Irish when I worked retail and I realized then I probably watched too much TV when I was a kid to not have the accent.

I think of hamburgers (cheeseburgers, etc.) as the ultimate fast food, but fried chicken to go was always the one that blew my parents’ minds when they were younger since you could make it last for days and eat it cold and didn’t have to fry it yourself. It’s an interesting generational gap!

I don’t think James Mason ever really got the respect he deserved, but ODD MAN OUT contains such an excellent performance. I think Robert Newton is great in it too, but that man CREATED the pirate in TREASURE ISLAND. So, yeah, all them people were doing good work. 🙂

I’m almost caught up on all the books (my current obsession), and it’s very interesting to me how the show adapts everything. It is not letter to letter, which I think is a good thing.

I honestly do think that kindness is (1) underrated and underused and (2) will get you everywhere. (3) It helps to have a Hamlet in your life. And so I provide mine to you! 😎

I realized that I think about this movie all the time. I don’t own it (although I should) and haven’t watched it in at least twenty years, but I think about it all the time. And that line, which seems so banal and benign, so anodyne, is anything but.

I’m not against calling this the greatest song of all time. I’m not necessarily for it (no one will ever know!), but I’m not against it.
I went down a rabbit hole after seeing the credits the first time and finding out that that was Ione Skye and learned that her dad is Donovan… Whose “Hurdy Gurdy Man” opens and closes the film and creeps the heck out of me forevermore.
I am at that extremely unfortunate (fortunate!) point in the morning where I now have to stay up to finish a book. If I play my cards right, I can sleep a little, exercise, feel not too exhausted to do some work, and then have a decent nap in the late afternoon.

It’s so magnificent. Basil Rathbone is so good. Robin does everything he can not to kill him. (No need to mention the shadow scene. But you gotta.)

Lol, man, I got two whole TBR bookshelves and, frankly, would not have it any other way. I am envious of you guys who can do audiobooks! They are not for me, entirely for sensory and attention span reasons.
You might like it! One thing I thought it did well was get into the science of why things happened the way they did (so, say, here’s why snow blindness matters). Also reminded me of the good PBS documentary about the event. Time for a reread for me!
