You can’t say criminals don’t deserve due process when due process is the thing that decides if they're criminals. Otherwise you're just kidnapping people you don't like.
It seems the #constitution, congress, the courts, and the people are the barriers to #authoritarianism. The economic context is also important. Take note my American friends: It is not looking good.

Great video. There’s lots of valid reasons people seek #autism diagnosis, including self knowledge and even for ‘practical’ issues. For example, in Canada, workplace accommodations and tax relief require diagnosis. Also, talking about a ‘cure’ is so problematic. Professionals, Please stop this.

We have a long way to go to understand and support autistic people well, but targeted research can help us do it better. The recently announced approach WILL NOT DO THIS -and takes funding away from actual needed research. Call your reps, protest, share your voice. This is an utter waste.
None of these terms captured the potential of people with #autism and lack of understanding stood- and still stands in their way
In summary, #Autism was always this common. We just didn’t understand it and missed or misdiagnosed it. We classified these people with derogatory terms: odd, loners, geeks, quirky, or ‘little professors’ or even savants.
We are still not great at diagnosing women and girls, but as better tools are developed and training increases, rates are still likely to increase. However, incorrect diagnoses may decrease, which may mean you see diagnostic shifting- moving from an incorrect diagnosis to the correct one
That meant we diagnosed the most obvious cases, but missed the more subtle presentations. As awareness has steadily increased, we got better at identifying those individuals
For example, around the year 2000, prevalence was about 1 in 100. AND there was a 4:1 ratio for Severe ‘classical, cases to so called ‘milder’ and more subtle forms, like the category we used to call Asperger’s Syndrome
When I started #autism research and clinical training, prevalence rates have changed. Yes, we are diagnosing it more, but the real growth has been in cases that would have been missed before the criteria was introduced to DSM
The criteria has changed several times since the DSM introduced it officially in 1994. Specific assessment tools were developed and training initiatives enhanced.
Once there was a category, research began to accumulate. Public and clinical awareness grew. Our understanding of the spectrum expanded.
Before we had a name for it, kids and adults were diagnosed with other, incorrect conditions
