Jeremy Clarkson, here, who built his career on license fee payers.

Jeremy Clarkson @JeremyClarkson We paid for Angela Rayner’s education. We paid her wages when she worked for the local council. We paid her wages when she became an MP. We even paid the settlement that enabled her to buy a house. Tax payers have funded every aspect of her entire life. 12:59 PM · Sep 5, 2025 · 1M Views

Also this weird misconception that public sector workers aren't taxpayers too. Anyone want to see the deductions on my payslip? Plus, I've got no choice about manipulating how I'm paid to minimise tax. That's as it should be, but it should be the same for everyone.

TGT tomorrow highlights the six shortlisted buildings for the RIBA Stirling Prize 2025. Ask your students which they like best and whether it's an issue that all 6 finalists are in the South East? bit.ly/TutorGroupThink

Friday 5th September The Royal Institute of British Architects have announced the six nominees for their annual Stirling Prize - given annually for ‘the most significant building of the year for the evolution of architecture and the built environment’. This year’s nominees, with some of the judges’ comments: Appleby Blue Almshouse - a social housing development for over 65s in South London “A new standard for inclusive social housing in later life”. Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) “A veritable masterclass in conservation and craftsmanship” Hastings House - An extension to a late 19th century house in East Sussex “A lesson in restrained, inventive reuse” AstraZeneca’s Discovery Centre - “Radically redefines the research facility, blending cutting-edge labs with welcoming public spaces” London College of Fashion - A new 17 story building, replacing six buildings “dramatic staircases unfurling through a shared ‘heart space’ to encourage collaboration” Niwa House - A Japanese style house in South London. “The quality of light throughout the home is breathtaking. It is difficult to see where the building ends and the gardens begin” The winner is announced on 16th October - which would you vote for? Do you like the aesthetic of the new buildings here, or do you prefer a ‘cosier’ look? All of the buildings are in the South East of England - is this an issue for a British prize? Subject of tomorrow's TGT may not require much introduction for your tutees, but do they realise how much of a cultural leader and powerful person she is? Happy Birthday to Beyoncé Knowles. bit.ly/TutorGroupThink

Thursday 4th September Happy Birthday to singer, actress and cultural icon Beyoncé Knowles who turns 44 years old today. Beyoncé’s parents were a Hairdresser and a sales manager; though her Dad would later quit his job in order to manage her first band, Destiny’s Child. Her first job was working in her mum’s salon where she would sweep hair - though sometimes also sing for the customers. She first won a singing talent contest when she was seven and she sang in choirs in church and school. In 2001 Destiny’s Child went on hiatus in order to pursue solo projects. Since then Beyoncé has established herself as a global superstar and cultural trend setter. She is known for pushing creative boundaries, producing visually striking music videos, and delivering innovative live performances. She has also become a symbol of empowerment. She frequently uses her platform to celebrate Black culture, highlight women’s strength, and speak out on issues such as feminism, racial justice, and self-identity. Her business decisions also show her influence; her unexpected release of music, uniformly worldwide, has disrupted traditional marketing strategies and proved that artists can take more control of their work. She has built a global brand that extends into fashion, film, and philanthropy, inspiring younger artists to combine creativity with entrepreneurship. Her endorsement and collaboration can increase the sales of other artists work by a thousand-fold. Questions: What’s your favourite Beyoncé song and why is it Single Ladies? Do you sing? Have you ever entered a singing contest? Why do you think Beyoncé chooses to collaborate with so many other artists? Thursday 4th September Happy Birthday to singer Beyoncé Knowles who turns 44 today! Beyoncé is a cultural icon who has changed the way that music industry operates thanks to her innovate marketing strategies. What is your favourite Beyoncé song and why is it Single Ladies?

Wednesday's TGT is a stunning urban fox picture that won The British Wildlife Photography Awards top prize this year. Ask your students whether the right photo won and what's stopping them from doing the same? bit.ly/TutorGroupThink

Wednesday 3rd September This photo, taken by Simon Withyman won the British Wildlife Photography Awards for 2025. His first prize was £3500 Simon has tracked this urban Red Fox in Bristol for three years. He has seen her territory move over a mile from that of her parents. That distance crosses a lot of roads and other hazards including the territories of other foxes. This vixen is a mother, hunting rodents and birds as well as opportunistically scavenging food discarded by humans to feed her young family. Simon knew this bridge was within her territory and part of her regular routine and set himself up to take this picture with the railings giving a unique perspective. What do you think of this photo? Compare it to the runners up - do you think the best photo won? Have you ever taken any wildlife photos? You can just use your phone, what’s stopping you? I created a Minute Cryptic for you to solve: Eye up sardine, not Duke, but Earl’s ubiquitous lunch. (6) Bit experimental this one. Let me know what you think. www.minutecryptic.com/custom/728f9...

It’s utterly unfathomable to me that a labour government and labour politicians continue to use this Nazi bar as the sole means of communication online.

It’s becoming harder and harder to come to any other conclusion than he actually believes this.

Tuesday's TGT remembers Jim Lovell, Apollo 13 Commander who died this summer at the age of 97. bit.ly/TutorGroupThink Reminder this year there's a choice of text-rich and low-text slides to use with your class.

Tuesday 2nd September Jim Lovell was born in 1928 in Ohio. His mother was a Czech immigrant and his father was a salesman from Canada. His father died in a car accident when he was just five years old. After high school Jim studied Engineering on a Naval scholarship, though he still had to wash dishes in a restaurant to make ends meet. He was one of only 50 Naval graduates (out of 783) selected for Naval Aviation School, where he later graduated top of the class. He applied to be part of the first wave of NASA astronauts in 1959 but was not one of The Mercury Seven due to a minor medical issue. He reapplied in 1962 and was one of the second wave of nine astronauts. He flew on Gemini 7 (1965) and Gemini 12 (1966) spending 16 days in Earth orbit in total. He then flew Apollo 8 (1968) which was the first flight to orbit the moon before Apollo 11 landed in 1969. In 1970 Lovell was commander of Apollo 13 which was due to be the third manned landing on the moon, however an explosion in an oxygen tank caused a change in mission as the crew used the Landing Module to ensure their survival and return home. The story was told in the 1995 film Apollo 13 (trailer) in which Lovell was played by Tom Hanks, though Lovell had a cameo as the captain of the naval ship that collected the astronauts after splash down. Lovell wore his official Naval uniform. He met his wife Marilyn in high school. They were married for 71 years before her death in 2023. Jim died on August 7th 2025, survived by his 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Questions: How do you think Jim felt flying around the moon twice but never getting to land? Could you stay calm in a crisis in a spacecraft? What job might exist when you’re an adult that doesn’t exist now? Tuesday 2nd September “Houston we’ve had a problem.” The calm, understated words spoken by Jim Lovell, commander of Apollo 13 after an explosion in an oxygen tank threatened the life of his crew during their 1970 space mission. Jim Lovell died this summer at the age of 97. Could you stay calm in a crisis in a spacecraft? Watch: Apollo 13 trailer

is it only asylum seekers our Labour Prime Minister would object to living next to or would the sentiment apply to black and brown people in general? if merely the former, would he like to explain how he knows people he sees, say, in the street, actually are asylum seekers and not citizens?
