Right now you can't but that will change. This is me testing the idea and getting feedback from real people to see if I need to make any small changes before I post it online for people to get their own deck. So maybe in a few weeks?

Too afraid to talk at a conference? Make Me the Bad Guy! Introducing the new EventConvo conversation prompt cards for #CYC25! Just walk up to someone, say the prompt on your card, and wait for them to say theirs back. THEN you both sign the cards. It really works.

Most “CSS problems” aren’t really CSS problems. They’re organizational ones. - Append-only stylesheets? Missing methodology. - Fragile layouts? No shared structure. CSS doesn’t give you guardrails Methodology and communication do. Be the browser’s mentor, not its micromanager.

Two men sit at a laptop looking surprised and stressed; one holds his head in frustration while the other looks shocked. The text “Quit Overthinking CSS” is displayed above with the CSS3 logo, and a cartoon brain lifts dumbbells in the corner.

Shipped the NEW Dallas Software Developers site, and it cleared 100% of automated a11y tests! - No gatekeeping - Free meetups - Real community We will keep this as a newer dev friendly open source project and also adding in more cool stuff! I have more ideas for the site!

Home page hero with the headline ‘Elevate Your Code With DSD,’ a large video thumbnail centered, and two call to action buttons labeled ‘Join Our Community’ and ‘Explore Events.’ Stats below read 500+ Members, 24 Meetups/Year, 100% Free. A small ‘scroll to explore’ indicator sits at the bottom. An accessibility helper window on the right confirms no automated scan errors. Dallas Software Developers site showing the ‘Featured Topics’ page with filter chips across the top and a 3x4 grid of speaker/member cards (headshots, names, roles, LinkedIn icons), including Danny Thompson, Ron Dagdag, Dennis Garcia, Clint Myers, Sarah Shook, Devyn Coyer, Gabe Marshall, Peter Stromquist, Serena D., Patrick Hulce, Cavasier Morris, and Brandy Smith. Right side shows an accessibility helper window stating ‘Congrats! There are no automated scan errors on this page!’ with a Try RAMP button. ‘Success Stories’ page section on the Dallas Software Developers site with three testimonial cards in a carousel layout, each with a short quote and name, including Yoo Jin Bae, Staci Southerland, and David Ogden III. Pagination dots and previous/next arrows appear below. An accessibility helper window on the right says there are no automated scan errors. Join Our Community’ page section highlighting Hybrid Meetups and No Gatekeeping, with a left text card and a 3x3 photo grid of meetup scenes: speakers at a podium, small group discussions, and attendees collaborating at tables. The navigation shows Community selected. An accessibility helper window on the right reports no automated scan errors.

Many people may not know this, but Figma, as we know it, almost wasn’t possible in the browser. Do you know the tech that made it happen? 🤔⬇️ WebGL. Instead of relying on the CPU like Canvas, WebGL unlocked the GPU, making smooth zooming, panning, and multiplayer design a reality.

Everyone asks "What is the difference between a VIP ticket and a regular ticket at #CommitYourCode?" My answer? Nothing. I have never liked income being a reason why someone can not have the full experience. The only true difference is just how much you want to donate to charity. That's it.

A promotional webpage for the Commit Your Code Conference. At the top, three stats are displayed in light blue: “02 days,” “04 branches,” and “100 talks.” The center features a large bold number “39” with the text “Days until Commit Your Code” below it. Underneath are two blue buttons: “Get early bird tickets” and “CYC Host Hotel.” The section below has a heading “Our commitment” with text stating the mission to host the best web development conference in Texas, provide value for engineers of all experience levels, and donate all proceeds to charity. A link labeled “View 2024 financial report” appears below. On the right side are three partner logos: Operation Kindness, freeCodeCamp, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The team over at @thisdotlabs.bsky.social came through with the swag drop, huge thanks to Tracy, @dthompsondev.bsky.social, and everyone who made the last AI mini conference happen. Let’s keep committing to the progress, not just the agent. www.youtube.com/watc...

- What tech skill saved your job once? - What’s your proudest “I made this” moment in tech? Thoughts?

A few I thought of - Which problem in software development do you think will never be solved? - If you had to explain your job to a medieval knight, how would you do it? - What’s the most unexpected use of code you’ve seen in the wild? - What’s the “pineapple on pizza” equivalent in programming?

What are some fun programs related conversation openers? This year at Commit Your Code we are giving everyone who attends a "prompt" to start conversations and as I was making a ton of them I realized it would be great to get some conversation prompts from the community as well!

Every night, for the last few weeks, I have been working on the new Dallas Software Developers website. v2, The new version of the site, has really come together. It will be open-source, just like v1. I really like how this has turned out. Thoughts?

Thank you! Making sure it is completely accessible is a big deal to me. If people reach out saying they can't afford it due to being laid off, I cover the ticket and meals are as well. If someone wants to grow as a dev and they feel this can hell, I refuse to allow price to keep them away from it.

"I really don't think software devs need to be told how to prompt at this stage." - Me late last year. After spending multiple sessions with devs as they prompted and tried to get their AI tools to get more reliable outputs, I was wrong. Many devs underestimate what is needed for a good prompt.

- Someone replies with a working version. - Then someone else replies with a shorter version. - Then someone else replies refactoring that... Before you know it, there’s a full-blown code review happening on birthday cake syntax. Only devs would optimize a cake. 😂

I just booked a service for my car at the dealership. It was the second to last question before my wife noticed something and said "Who would ask that? Wait... Is that AI?!?" The experience was SO SMOOTH. Conversational AI is going to be the next UI we all focus on.

Some people say they want the truth and real answers but in reality they only want it if it matches their narrative otherwise the painful reality is too much that they continue searching for a "true answer" that lets them feel they are right.

Outside of social media there is an entire ecosystem of software developers that don't know how to leverage AI tools in the best ways. A small demo of actual USEFUL practices can easily have eyebrows raised. If you are using AI right now you are ahead of a lot of people

🗝️ takeaway from discussion with Rob Ocel & Simone Cuomo: We should be on our own journey when it comes to working with AI to see how it might benefit us and our productivity. You shouldn't buy into the hype, but experimenting is the only way to discover how it can benefit you. #thisdotAI
