I thought that until I checked a One4all gift card I’d been given ages ago to find that the balance had been reduced to nil as they charge a monthly ‘management fee’ of 90p. Such a scam

The day I upgraded and went to move a file from one drive to another, and the Move To option was no more… 🤯 This annoys me every day more than words will ever describe

Timber Hearth in Outer Wilds - I’m very, very late to playing this game, but the soundtrack is my new work playlist
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I love that I’m one of the weirdos that really liked Alien3. Not Resurrection though - that can get in the bin
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
All my old games are in boxes in the loft, but the PS1 cases are probably the only ones I’d put on a shelf again for aesthetic purposes
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Unpopular opinion, but I miss the consistent spine design on the PAL cases. White on black, and black on grey for the platinum version - always looked clean and classy on a shelf
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Could honestly watch this all day - you are so talented!!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
“Superman…” 😭
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I played DDLC a few weeks ago and it was wild - Yuri was definitely the best!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Always great seeing FFXIII getting some love - will always be one of my favourites
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Just mopping up some last bits of exploration then will be going for the DLC. Genuinely found some of the early game unexpectedly terrifying (the first trip to Giants Deep was brutal!!) but I loved the whole “following breadcrumbs” gameplay
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
OMG just rolled credits on Outer Wilds (I don’t get chance to play often which is why it had taken so long). Don’t think I’ve ever played a game that has had me thinking so much about it when not playing Easily one of the best games I’ve played 🤯
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
100% Edith Finch - I played it for the first time a few weeks ago during a gaming rut when I couldn’t motivate myself on what to play next, and it was manna for the soul (if a little emotional at times)
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent

Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I picked up Outer Wilds in the last Steam sale and it’s next on my to do list 😬
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
God I loved Vagrant Story - and not afraid to admit I picked up the strategy guide 🫢 Just hoping that now that a FF Tactics remake is on the way, a Vagrant Story remake should be next… 🤞🏻
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
“Enhanced” by PlayOnline - such a misnomer, especially in the days when going online meant booting up a PC and hitting that dial up 🫠
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Takes me back to doing all my GCSE coursework on my PCW 8256 - with a bit of MicroDesign when I needed it to look flashy
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes! Released as Fahrenheit in the UK and Europe, but had so many clever ideas that found their way into Heavy Rain and Detroit. The ending was a bit trippy, but was still a great game
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
The AC franchise is one of my favourites, but the inconsistency is rough at times!! Hope you manage to stick with AC3, the story element improves during the later segments
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Playing this at launch and going from Ezio to Connor was such a disappointment 😩 although the parkour through trees mechanic was fun
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Is that… a bottle of Vagrant Story wine?!?? 😲
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
But put it this way - it came out 15 years ago and I still think about it now 🥹
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah I get that - I think lots of the specifics of the game are left deliberately vague and ambiguous. There is plenty of speculation online about the real meaning of the game (Where is the boy? Why is he there?) but I remember reading that the game’s dev never gave a canon explanation
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Limbo is a masterpiece! Bought it on Xbox Live a million years ago, and at least 3 other platforms since. Full of ingenious mechanics and lots of eureka moments - and it’s atmospheric af
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I played GRIS a few years ago when I was in a really low patch - I’ve never felt a game resonate with me more before or since. Not a word get spoken, yet it speaks volumes. And the soundtrack became my go to chill playlist. Always love seeing GRIS getting some appreciation ❤️
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Damn, that FFXIII scene 😭
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I remember being so envious of friends who had the Visionaries toys - the holograms were so cool! 😎
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
There was only one series of Visionaries made, but 5 year old me thought that it was insanely good!!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I remember having Mumm-Ra’s tomb and it was easily one of the coolest toys I had as a kid
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
That whole sequence stayed with me for a long time - Hugo playing by the river, turn the corner and then bam!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Never mind that - owning a copy of Resident Evil Survivor marks you as person with exceptional taste!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I loved Eternal Sonata!! The story is bonkers, but the art, gameplay and the music are excellent. The battle systems is more in depth than you first realise, and the optional dungeon near the end of the story is one of my all time gaming high points, with proper story implications
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s weird - we all know what’s going to happen, but I can’t help think that maybe the story is written in a different way for the show… though I can’t think how they could do it
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Reminds me of how much I hated stalkers in TLOU2
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Same with the 'Save and Quit' option - best doing a quick manual save first...
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Hyper Light Drifter’s oversized special edition box ruining the alphabetised run… still an awesome game though!!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I’ll happily recommend Koudelka. It is absolute rubbish. Clunky, weird, awkward as hell. Also one of the most brilliant, atmospheric horror RPGs ever made. A beautiful gothic ruin
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Balamb Garden, Don’t be Afraid, The Man with the Machine Gun - so many bangers!!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
The FFVIII is seared on my memory - crazy how looking at any still from that intro has Liberi Fatali playing in my brain
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Love the way that the sign isn't even attached to a door - it's just magically suspended in the doorway 😂
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Always love seeing GRIS on the tl - the soundtrack is 💯
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
What?!? Is this a joke??
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
How has no-one mentioned Half-Life 2?
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Word Gets Around was an incredible album!! Phonics at their best! Feeling unusually nostalgic on a Wednesday now 👴🏻
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Not quite as classy for me, but takes me back to using my battered CD player on the bus to school listening to scratched discs. The fact that Tsunami doesn't skip for 10 seconds when I listen to it on Spotify always feels off to me 😄
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Of course always objective, but I'm clearly biased because EMG came out when I was 14 and was the quintessential album of my youth
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Surely Everything Must Go steals the fan favourite? Design, Australia, Kevin Carter... all stone-cold, sing-out-loud classics. Plus the first album after Richey disappeared and the band reinvented themselves. Can't argue with the Holy Bible though - masterpiece
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
That was an hour well spent! Personal highlight was trying to outrun the Midgar Zolom 🤣 Thanks for sharing - makes me want to play FFVII all over again!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Must’ve played and replayed that whole intro sequence dozens of times back in the day - can probably still quote it all word for word even now “Where are you… Sydney?”
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Haha it was a very graphic heavy challenge for my ageing PC!! I remember the start when a door closed behind me and the first few notes of Everything In Its Right Place kicked in - honestly stopped me in my tracks. Damn I love that album!!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I loved the hidden art book that was stashed inside early CD editions of Kid A - I still have my copy. Radiohead also released the Kid A Mnesia Exhibition, an interactive game where you “play” through the artwork. The sequence for How to Disappear Complete is particularly beautiful.
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I have the GRIS soundtrack on while working too! Would also recommend Berlinist’s other work as well - such a talented group of musicians
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Probably my favourite ever indie game, and easily the most beautiful 😍
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Haha like the photos outside every barbershop across the globe 🤣 To be fair I’m playing Survivor at the moment and it is an awesome game - with or without mysterious hairstyles
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
But finding a new hairstyle or beard in a loot box on a random moon is still an odd mechanic 🤷🏻♂️
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Garrus died on my suicide mission run years ago and I’m trying to build up the motivation to play all 3 again to (hopefully) see his story play out - and go full on renegade while I’m at it
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Since the Holy Bible tour in 2014(?) which was amazing, the tours have all been restrained. The Suede combo gig last year was fun for some novelty, but I can’t imagine the crowd belting out any of the new material
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
And I can’t help thinking that using the same album font on Critical Thinking as Generation Terrorists is their subtle way of bookending their studio albums…
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Every time I go to see the Manics I always assume it will be the last time I’ll see them live. To be fair I really liked Resistance is Futile (Broken Algorithms is a beast of a tune) but I get we’ll never get another Holy Bible/Everything Must Go
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Does this mean we are agreeing that anything before the dark age of DLC, day 1 updates and micro transactions is now considered retro?
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I swear that at least 50% of my time using Excel is spent persuading it to use DD/MM/YYYY
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Easily my favourite PS1 game - I’m not giving up hope for a remake!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social)
Finally got round to tinkering around with Retroarch, and had to start with the greatest ever intro to a video game - Vagrant Story 😍
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
One of the all time greats 🏹
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Being able to pause cutscenes - so important when impatient children are around!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah this made me smile 😊
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
🤣 Demonstrating all those skills… that I then had no need to replicate at any other stage of the game
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Always wondered how voice acting would work with the Shakespeare style script. “Now the slowest dance begins, partner! ...'Tis a fine tomb we shall share!”
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I feel like I spent a solid chunk of my childhood stuck in that damn car park trying to finish a slalom before the timer ran out 😭
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
The dialogue and localisation, the story, the music… everything about Vagrant Story was magical. I don’t usually hope for remakes, but I agree this would be one too good to miss
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I hardly ever do early access but I might have to make an exception
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Just want to say thanks for this recommendation - have been playing this the past couple of days and it is amazing!! I spent nearly 200 hours with This War of Mine 😬 so felt right at home. Creeping past zombies is infinitely more creepy than avoiding snipers!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Bit of a mixed bag - I prefer it when it is really clear that this leads to the endgame... sometimes I don't pick up on the in game style "I should probably finish all my side quests before I do this action"... I guess I need to pay more attention!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I wish every game made the point of no return so obvious 😭
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I spotted it on GOG the other week and it reminded me how awesome this was when I played it on my 360 years ago. That whole bank heist sequence was 🤯
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Spotted RDR2 on sale on Steam earlier today and toyed with the idea of picking it up at last - though I’ve no idea when I’ll find time to play it!!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
This is the one positive of having a looong backlog - by the time I get round to playing something it’s usually been patched to death 😂
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m part-way through Survivor and happy to report that’s it’s just a good, if not better in parts
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social)
Finally managed to take the kids for a proper education at the Arcade Club - 3 hours flew by
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Have been the to see The Smyths a few times, but the best gig was one was a few years back where a broken bass string at the start of Charming Man led to this - it was immense!!
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Easily my favourite PS1 game
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I’ve owned and played Limbo on at least 4 different platforms - it’s such an amazing game
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes! Such a great game!! Bring her 🪐
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah big advocate of people playing games however they want - I’m a PC gamer who prefers to use a controller because it’s what I grew up with 🙃
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I used to enjoy achievements back in the 360 days, but too many guides ruining spoilers for story heavy games really switched me off - plus moving more to PC gaming where the achievement/trophy ecosystem isn’t really the same
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
How does that mix with using trophy guides? Do you do a dry run without a guide to avoid spoilers, or is it out with a walkthrough from the off?
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Loved Koudelka! The game is terrible, clunky, and most of the acting is cringe… but there is something about the aesthetic and feel of the game that transcends all that
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
When season 1 wrapped up I was straight into reading the 3 books. Waiting for season 2 to finish so I can binge
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Always a great atmosphere at their gigs - hardly any trouble
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Good work with all the Shed Seven tickets - I get to see them most Decembers when they tour, and am off to see them play an acoustic gig in Amsterdam in September 🎶
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
The whole Ticketmaster “pay an extra £5 and we’ll send you a souvenir ticket” frustrates the hell out of me!! I’m just frustrated because all my old stubs often got lost in a drunken mess
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I miss running around Gran Pulse hunting Long Guis for illusive Trapezohedrons
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Playing Survivor right now first the first time and am loving all the Cal & Merrin scenes - such a cool duo
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
I never actually played the game because it was only released on Google Daydream, but the soundtrack for So Let Us Melt by Jessica Curry is absolutely stunning - discovered after listening to her work on Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, it’s a beautiful album
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
So much alphabetised loveliness on that wall! 👌
Matt (@dystopianrelic.bsky.social) reply parent
Such an awesome opportunity - Abby is an incredibly complex character. Hope the show does her justice like they did in S1
