Just got done rearranging a bunch of them… again.

Actually, I’m thinking I might have screwed up and ordered a mass market paperback size instead of a normal paperback size. Didn’t know they were doing both with these!
Maybe it’s a big ask because THE STAND unabridged is stupid-long, but part of what I liked about these editions (beyond the neato covers) were the slightly larger feel of them in-hand and the plentiful white space on the page to help read faster. Not getting those things here with this book.

The only London I’ve read before is The Iron Heel, which I hated, and To Build a Fire, which I loved. This one is super good so far. Haven’t read anything by Conrad, and I don’t know shit about Kipling beyond The Jungle Book and Gunga Din.

Cautiously optimistic for this one (can’t watch the trailer yet, that will help). I loved The Void and Psycho Goreman, but Frankie Freako was the wrong kind of stupid for me (though I’ll give them props for making the weird ass shit they wanted to).
Oh yeah, the new cover for The Shining is undoubtedly the best that it’s had. Sure beats the three other copies I have, the only one of which that was worth a fuck was the movie tie-in edition with the yellow movie poster for a cover.

This was a great book. Got way wilder and weirder with the monster action than I expected. Very possibly my new favorite @haileypiperfights.bsky.social book (though I still have a major soft spot for CRUEL ANGELS PAST SUNDOWN and THE WORM AND HIS KINGS).

If you’re into dark fantasy, disgustingly perverted sex with the dead and/or monsters, twisted violence, and good writing, this might be the book for you! It’s liable to make me lose my lunch as I laugh through nastiness. (The physical edition has A+ illustrations, too.)

My 14 year old has started reading FIGHT CLUB, and that’s something for my aging ass to process. I loved those Palahniuk books back in high school in the early 00’s, when his stuff was the hotness for edgy bookish potheads. Tried reading HAUNTED again a while back and just couldn’t do it, alas.

What I liked best about the Obama years was being able to ignore fucking politics for the most part. It doesn’t hurt that I was drunk/hungover much of the time while getting a grasp on a blue collar career to support a whoopsie baby, but hey. I wasn’t nearly as vicious about the news back then.
I’ve been mentally poking the same 5-6 semi-strong ideas I have with a stick for the last several years without making real progress beyond notes, false starts, and the odd preliminary paragraph here and there. They ought to be polished as hell by the time I write them in earnest!
I’ll take it over the original any day. No offense to the first, which is a great book/movie, but the sequel is a million times more interesting to me.

Halfway through the first volume of ABSOLUTE BATMAN. Pretty enjoyable, kinda interesting new take. I’m primarily into it for Nick Dragotta’s artwork. He’s a total weirdo, and I love it. Haven’t been crazy about Snyder’s writing since he started making shit stupid “because comics!”

I’ve been really pleased with both Superman and Fantastic Four this summer. Came away from both with minimal nitpicks and nothing actively angering me, which is pretty rare for comic book movies.

My thought on this is, if there’s no reason my character would understand what the fuck is happening to them, then the reader doesn’t need to either. I’m also torn on the “wizened scholar” trope as a means to explain stuff. I’ve used it before and it can be fun, but what are the odds?
The original Highlander is one of my favorite movies, so I’m skeptical as shit of a remake, but when I hear it involves the creators of John Wick, Henry Caville, and now Karen Gillan, I can’t help but get stoked for it. Now just keep the original Queen soundtrack.

It’s one of those comics that young readers continuously look over as being edgy for the sake of edge, and I worry that it’s one of those comics”you had to be there to understand it” things. The whole point is, your heroes…. aren’t heroes. They’re deranged celebrity-soldiers.
It’s amazing how many people measure their moral superiority by how often they piss their pants.
The only flaw I can think of is the inconsistent art. Really wish they’d just had Doug Mahnke draw the whole thing. The Darkseid dialogue in the last couple-three issues is amazing, plus the use of cell phones and other tech to spread the Anti-Life Equation is inspired.
I was a kid when this stuff (and the Parallax events) were taking place, and they were top-tier epic to me.
This is the only Spider-Man series I’ve given a shit about in years.
I understand some of the grievances with it, but Identity Crisis kicked off a very fun era of DC Comics to read. Following along on the old DC message boards was a gas, everyone trying to solve the mystery. It contains one of my favorite Batman quotes, too.
