Independent Bookstore Day is not the only tradition that happens around this time. Our closing on May 1st in observance of International Workers' Day (aka May Day) is as well. I tend to post the following text in some form or another every year as well. Repetition isn't always so bad.

A little toasty ode to Independent Bookstores for the day at hand.

A labor of love. It’s a fleshy human affair, whose shortcomings and successes rarely can exist too far apart. It's Day 1 of Independent Bookstore Weekend. The *Day* itself is tomorrow, 4/26. But, we're not bound by space or time!! Our booksellers at EBB will be given a bonus if you buy one of their staff picks. Our staff recs are online, and are (usually) indicated w/ little cards throughout the store.

People are fond of the “rise like a phoenix” metaphor. But if it’s deployed, it’s useful to recall that what’s reborn isn’t quite the same as before. & what follows from that, not the rising again itself, is what makes for a truly exciting story.
