Good news about the cutting-edge AI tools from the $3-trillion-dollar company.

Google AI search result for “was 2010 fifteen years ago?” returning: “No, 2010 was 14 years ago, not 15 years ago. The current year is 2025, and to find the number of years ago 2010 was, you subtract 2010 from 2025, which equals 14. Current Year: 2025 Past Year: 2010 Years Ago: 2025 - 2010 = 14 years”

My statement on @nadler.house.gov’s decision not to seek re-election next year.

“For more than thirty years, when New Yorkers needed a champion, we have turned to Jerry Nadler—and he has delivered for us time and again. Jerry stood alongside gay and trans Americans when it was politically unpopular, voted with courage—not calculus—against the Iraq War and the Patriot Act, stood steadfast alongside the first responders and families sickened after 9/11, and led efforts to hold a lawless Trump administration accountable. Few leaders possess his record of principled progressivism, and fewer can claim to have made such an enduring impact on the fabric of our city. Congress will be worse off without his leadership, but our democracy will be better for the selflessness that has defined a legendary career.”

Right now there’s a lot of articles about how 2025 US total box office so far proves movies are in decline. It’s mostly bullshit. The real story of 2025 is original movies audiences want to see are doing individually far better than anyone expected, and studios seem to not know, or what people want…

The key takeaway is Netflix’s bragged about algorithm that spies on every click you make gives them more data about audiences than ever existed in cinema history. But it has not led to their biggest hits. K-pop DH was made fully separate from Netflix & has crushed their $320 million Electric State.

Happy Labor Day! Today we're bringing you The First Union, as told by HBomberguy (@hbomberguy.bsky.social) and illustrated by Skutch (@skutchdraws.bsky.social) It's the dawn of the industrial revolution, and of the way many of us work... Have you ever heard of the term "Luddite" from an elder?

Stanhill, Lancashire, 1764. Wear and carpenter James Hargreaves invents the Spinning Jenny, the first practical spinning-frame, to make the tedious task of producing cloth a little bit faster. He doesn't know it yet, but this will destroy the world. Spurred by inventions like his, the industrial revolution will transform everything -- work power, the wealth of nations. Society as we know it began here, and it wasn't great for everyone. But a group of weavers and textile workers saw this future coming. And did their best to prevent it. Factory work paid little, since If you were living through it, opposing the industrial revolution wasn't techno-phobia. It was SELF-DEFENSE. The combination act forced unions underground into secret societies. And the greatest secret of all was their leader - Ned Ludd. Ned had been a folk character for years. In one version after being whipped by his master, he smashed two knitting frames in a rage. In more fanciful versions, he then escaped to the Sherwood forest, here he lived among the animals as their king. Some versions specifically call him 'Much Better Than Robin Hood'.

If you have not been, now is a really good time to start tracing your multi-size patterns instead of cutting them out. This is a resource we'll never have again.

Truly we just cannot have shit, huh? Don't really post about it but I sew a lot of my own clothing and while this isn't necessarily a huge deal for folks already versed in the craft it's a death blow to intro-level folks, and thus to the longevity of the hobby at large. What the actual fuck.

Fuck the person writing alt-text that essentially presumes that the people reading it can see the images. Pro tip: a whole thread of alt-text 'in jokes' that do not describe the image--or even identify the actors!--is a fuck you to blind and low vision people. Do not be that asshole.

The only GOP senator who *didn’t* vote to confirm him? Mitch McConnell, who was disabled by polio as a child & took years to recover. These diseases killed & disabled kids within living memory. They’re poised for a comeback. RFK must go. Call your congresspeople.

What RFK Jr sees as bright eyes, engagement and curiosity is actually the result of fever in the unvaccinated kids. Brain worms and opioids evidently impair your judgment.

I blame the senate members 100% for giving this existential threat a platform. We can loathe kennedy jr himself, but he pretty much declared his intent (with some obvious lying) in his hearings. Let's also direct our disgust and outrage at the gop senate who voted "yea" for this disgrace of a thing.

Doesn't this mean, by his own logic, RFK Jr is damaged, poisoned, & has low IQ, since I assume he received the usual set of vaccinations as a child? Not endorsing his beliefs, just wondering whether anyone has asked him about the impairments he says he should have and why they don't disqualify him.

Also: if you depend on your paid subscriptions for income, please note that your readers will have to pay more--and therefore be more likely to drop you entirely. And, soon enough, they'll also take a bigger chunk off YOUR net. #SubstackHasANaziProblem mail.bigdeskenergy.com/p/substack-j...

From the link in my post: With Substack's latest launch, writers are actually ceding control of the billing relationship to Apple, which now owns and controls the subscription. These transactions, subscriptions, and customers will no longer be accessible in their Stripe account. (little diagram showing people/subscriptions linked to Substack, where Apple will set a 30% fee for handling payments, while Strip charges another 10% before paying the writer) Most importantly, that means that if writers choose to leave Substack, they won't be able to port their paid subscriptions over to another platform like they could previously. This predatory platform lock-in is incredibly dangerous for writers. It strips away data and control, while locking them into the platform.

DO IT NOW, before you are locked in forever. #SubstackHasANaziProblem
