This is the fault of capitalism. Everything used to stop for Lunch. Every office and shop was closed between 1pm and 2pm. There were proper meals served up in factory canteens. Only in the 80s did this begin to disappear.
Not had a night shift like that for a while. 3 hours “standing by” at another station 20 miles away from base and just 1 job at 0515 (1900-0700 shift) that didn’t travel. Better than the 2 hour late finish the night before or the absolute shit show the night previous.
For the fourth time this Summer some random has referred to me as a “Speccy Cunt” in the course of my duties. Not hurt but gobsmacked because I have so many other wonderful attributes they could pick from. Fat, bald, beardy, ugly, even stupid should they choose. I’m going back to wearing contacts 😆

I’ve looked them up. There were 4 not 5. The 1st I’ve heard of the film based on her novel, the 2nd appeared to be third rate YA fanfic, the 3rd I’d heard of one of her fantasy series which I thought sounded awful and finally, the 4th looked interesting but the covers were generic crime fic

I have decided to move my hobby space indoors and have found most other producers products were warped and unusable. The Sphere Products racks were still in great nick. So now I’ve bought 2 vertical stands to fit GW paints (with another planned) and have been eyeing up another item.
So many years ago I bought (eventually 3) paint racks for my Vallejo paints. Laser cut MDF, nice chunky pieces, incredibly well engineered. The lived out in my “shed” with other producers’ MDF stands, subject the vagaries of temperature and humidity for around a decade.

A FB group for former pupils of my high school from the 70s and 80s has been a great place to share memories and reconnecting. I’d noticed that most of the posts of late were shit memes by the 2 admins. 3 days ago I went to post but there was no way to do so, the admins admitted they turned it off.

Spent a significant part of today’s shift engaged in a close exam of the inside of my eyelids- which is nice 💤
30 minutes to shift end. Had a bit of a battle with a violent patient earlier. Told the police he hadn’t assaulted me (he had) as he’d had received my warface in return. My crewmate got a fright too- never heard me raise my voice before.
Fighting Fantasy especially The Warlock of Firetop Mountain was definitely my gateway drug. It didn’t take me long to dive in with both feet into the whole Pen & Paper role playing experience.
I remember lying in the dark in my childhood bedroom and the skeleton would drop down from the ceiling prompting screams and transferring to my parents’ bed. Didn’t stop me going on ghost trains though.
Listening to the Scarred For Life podcast. Remembering my own irrational childhood fear of Skeletons. Never bothered by the Jason & the Argonauts skeleton warriors. I’m pretty sure my fear came from a ghost train at Kirkcaldy’s Links Market.
I have survived my first shift after 3 weeks leave. Night shift, bloody cold out but nothing too stressful work wise. In retrospect I should have worn a coat but I’m sure -6°c still counts as t-shirt weather in these parts.
A good twist is fun if you can manage it. Roald Dahl, Frederick Forsyth and others could pull it off even within 2000 words. I also enjoy short pieces that add to the “lore” of a series.
