I don’t know, I’ve been really into watching these more fringe right wing groups for decades and I’d say while the last few months have been fast, there is a longer part of this that has been in motion for many years.
That’s what I don’t know? Without a cohesive strong opposition party it’s hard to see our way out of this, especially with the media allowing itself to be cuckolded by the media. Not only is it all frightening but it’s also just freaking bizarre, all of it.
Someone on here a few weeks ago posted something about how we’re going to look back on this time as a slow civil war and I’m really stuck on this idea. There are so many parts of it that remind of the time right before and right after the American civil war as well.
How much longer can I just keep plopping along like everything is normal when EVERYTHING IS NOT NORMAL?!?!?
The thought I keep being preoccupied by is why are so many billionaires and extremely wealthy going along with this? The current system has made them richer than anyone has ever been before, shouldn’t they be fighting to uphold the system that got them so fantastically rich?
And thinking more about this, especially at this moment. There is so much going on that artists should be responding to but most people are too worried about whether it’s cool or not.
Another artist visited the studio today & we were talking about how so many artists are afraid of being cringe and how boring the art scene is these days as a result. Artists need to be taking risks or art stagnates. Art does not need to be cool and aloof, it needs to be full of emotion & feeling.

Overall my feeling reading this book is that the French Revolution does unfortunately not have strong parallels to this moment. There is definitely the wealth disparity but the ruling class was very different from what we are dealing with at this moment.
The book which quoted this is, The Last Libertines, by Benedetto Craveri of which I took the best photo of all time of a few months back.

People often express to me that they can’t believe the creative output I have as an artist. Here’s the honest truth about my productivity: I make this much work because I have to to survive financially. If I could make less work and take a day off every week I’d be so much happier.

Here’s me, perched in the corner of my studio painting lines. This is how I spend most of my life at this point and somehow I don’t get tired of it. Painting lines is about the most soothing thing I can think of doing and when I’m not painting them, I’m drawing them in my sketchbook.

I think the fear of failure is a huge part of it for sure. Probably for the reason you stated but also because they perceive other artists via social media as only creating “perfect” work. This definitely is leading to some very very boring art being made.
I definitely feel like this contributes to it but knowing so many artists I think a lot of them are just making art that unfortunately doesn’t have a lot of deep thinking behind it. Even when they are not rewarded by the algorithm with this work it just feels like they are afraid to take risks.
Why does so much art fall into three categories these days? Everything is either a gimmick, poorly done seemingly on purpose, or just a stagnant derivation of other people’s ideas. I mean, there are definitely artists doing interesting things these days but they get almost no attention.

I’m working on an installation for an upcoming solo show that obviously will have a lot of political pieces. A question came to me while brainstorming: how do you fight people who welcome violence ?
I feel like a lot of us are defaulting to our childhood mantra of: ignore the bullies and they’ll go away, in relation to the current administration. I actually never found this strategy to work much as a child and it’s definitely not working with these assholes either.
I’m at the nexus of hormones, over work, and a heat wave and folks, it’s not a great place.

Occasionally I make molds for slipcasting some of my ceramic designs. Recently Joel and I made two new molds including the one in this video that I’m so excited about.

Whenever I wear pink and red together I’m reminded of my mother and grandmother who would never allow me to wear these colors together as a child because they said they clashed. It makes me think how sad the lives of people are when they are so tied to conforming to random societal norms.

The only endorphins I know are the ones I get from crossing items off a to-do list.
My husband is a person who genuinely loves exercise and feels better for it. I do think there are a lot of people who find pleasure in it and actually feel better as a result. I am decidedly not one of those people.
I have yet to find any sort of exercise I actually enjoy but now that I’m 2 years from 50 years old I don’t think I have a choice but to engage in this loathed activity.
I don’t know, I have lots of friends that seem to enjoy it? I just find it to be the worst kind of drudgery no matter what kind I do.
I’m doing this thing called: trying to exercise. I hate it very much. Anyone that tells you that exercise makes them feel better definitely seems to be lying about it.

I’ve been blathering on about my new studio for awhile now, so here’s a little tour!
Whenever I start feeling a bit panicked about making ends meet as a full time working artist, I remind myself that there are billions of people on this planet and I only need a handful of them to choose to support my work each month to get by.
So many things happening in the studio! Especially excited about these two things that are slowly moving through the ceramics process.
The downside of having a beautiful new studio in my garage is that now it’s way too easy for me to work for 10 hours straight.
