Here's the video Trump just posted to Truth Social, with the claim that 11 people aboard the boat were killed. There is zero evidence of self-defense here. Looks like a massacre of civilians at sea. Even if they had drugs aboard, that's not a capital offense.

I think we need to stop saying that people hate crime. They like punishment. There are clear ways to reduce crime that involve systemic investment in communities but we avoid doing that in favor of ever more militarized policing because too many people in power like punishment.

As best I can tell, the strategy is "make Palantir politically toxic." Which, sure, is worth doing in the longterm. But the current admin LOVES politically toxic. And the next admin will buy the same software from either a different firm or some rebranded Palantir spinoff etc
They're not a consumer-facing company at all. They don't care about boycotts, bad press, public pressure etc. Their investment base isn't particularly susceptible to that pressure either. I don't see this congress or this admin doing anything meaningful to rein them in. I just don't see the TOC

my hot take is that Palantir is a great villain but a terrible target. i'm glad that more and more people are becoming aware of the dangers of digital surveillance. but it would be cool if folks recognized that anti-surveillance activism is not new. we've learned a few things ask us about it

Online age verification is not like "showing ID to buy alcohol" because a) the liquor store doesn't get to scan your ID and store a digital copy of it forever in a database that will inevitably get hacked b) you don't have to show ID to go to the library because they have cocktail recipe books
