Honestly I don't think off's plot is as abstract or elusive as people try to make it out to be. We're in a coma of a child that's in a post apocalyptic world. The batter and queen are stand ins for his parents, but aren't because they're charactures created by him.
#deltarunespoilers Very convinced dess is the heart. The demon took her body away, and her actual soul went into Kris. Definitely would help explain the weird route and why she's hellbent on making her sister stronger. Also her room duologue in chapter 4 "you could just walk right in".
