Yes definitely a tri-colored. They prefer fish and shrimp so guess the crabs are safe from them. But yes odd there's nothing else there at the potential feast!

๐ Yes! Exactly! A couple years back someone shared a photo with us of a woodland landscape, they had taken years before. They thought just a nice landscape. When they looked with fresh eyes years on, they realised it actually included a tree full of Herons.

While I was taking sunrise pics this morning, I saw diamonds flickering in the morning sky.....turns out it was a flock of egrets and a couple of great blue herons.....
So this is a thing we think. We've had others share with us Herons and Beavers sharing time together. Beavers create spaces that Heron love to hunt. When @dunrobinontario.bsky.social's GBH arrive from migration in spring the first place they go is the Beaver Lodge.
