I started singing hymns from The Sacred Harp (a Shapenote tune book) when I was a tween. Acapella, 4 part dispersed harmony still sung in the south. It’s raw and gorgeous and profound. If someone gets feral from that it’s because they don’t have the capacity to hear its particular beauty.
