So so availablity isn't really the issue. Trauma is a big issue however, most of my clients have trauma backgrounds though childhood sexual abuse, rape, physical abuse, psychological abuse and undiagnosed issues like ADHD or Autism to name a few. The issue goes way beyond availability
I mentioned earlier I worked in addictions and at any given time 50% to 75% of my work is taken up with people with alcohol problems, the rest is made up of every other drug! Drugs like heroin and crack are easily available in all western country's despite the so called war on drugs
No it is more dangerous in a number of ways. The most obvious is that if you are addicted and drink everyday then stop there is a good chance you'll have a fit/seizure which could kill you, the only other drug that does that are benzos (valium).
Things really took off during and after COVID as well. I've worked with 70 year olds who have alcohol problems and they had been hiding them for decades!
It's worth researching alcohol issues in the UK, they really are massive and mostly hidden. I work in addictions and we only see a small percentage of people who actually have alcohol problems, the whole glass of wine after work nonsense has caused a massive spike in drink problems over the years
The overall social problems caused by alcohol abuse is massive things like domestic abuse or violence in general escalates when alcohol is involved alcohol is the most widely accessed drug in the UK we have more people with alcohol problems than problems with other drugs including heroin and crack
Alcohol causes more problems in the uk than all the illegal drugs put together!
