Certainly sucks a lot that Google is locking down their phones like Apple already did. There are many legitimate reasons for needing to install an app from a source that isn't from the app store on your computer, be that computer a PC or a phone.
People are terrified at even the notion of asking if capitalism is actually an incredibly evil and destructive way to run a cooperative world. But if we aren't willing to do that, our species dies. Society is already collapsing.
Money is the root of our dysfunction. Well, actually capitalism and competition itself. The rot isn't confined to congress or the US. Sure, the rot is worse in the US but only because it idolizes destructive competition more than most. Delete competition and currency entirely.
All these things exist, more or less, but people tend to buy computers, not install operating systems. Manufacturers should standardize on one distro and sell computers with it. Which distro? No idea off hand.
Flatpak isn't without flaws. Containers have disadvantages too.

I dunno, the Orin Nano devkit thing for 250 bucks, 8 gigs of memory and 25 watt power draw seems absolutely ideal to run a local somewhat limited LLM with Home Assistant for instance (if one can find one, anyway). PC with GPU cost more and uses more power.

Yep, our (small) data center has a physical clunky switch on the UPS just for this purpose, though most serious UPS:es do permit hot swaps of batteries. Pretty recently had them come in and refurbish hours, in fact, no issues with downtime obviously. Next UPS will be lithium, battery swap in 20 yrs.
Fall weather can be unstable, so I tossed my rain jacket and an umbrella into the car when I drove to work. Then I went into the office and left them in the car. Now it's raining cats and dogs out there and it's lunchtime.
Slice potatoes, pour baking soda and salt into water, boil the potatoes in the alkali water; this breaks down the surface. Toss in a colander or something to further beat them up/rough them up. Pour into an air fryer and spray them with oil and boom. Or, deep fat fry obviously. Super crispy surface.
Side benefit, the MAGA loons who'd walk around it and into traffic.
Very cool, I look forward to seeing those adventures. My current NAS is built on a Supermicro ITX board but I could see myself going low power ARM. Although might be tricky to get ARM + minimum six SATA + 10 gig networking.

It's really pretty satisfying to do some minor home improvement stuff. If only I didn't come home exhausted before I even started, but oh well.
As for this new controller, it looks great for what it is but I *really* want my Zigbee and Z-wave controllers to be network enabled, so I can connect to them over the network. Thus, HA in a VM buried off to the side somewhere and controllers in the middle of the house with PoE.
Also, Z-wave does also mesh, and an argument could be made that going all in on Z-wave makes a great deal of sense. But Zigbee tends to be cheaper and there's an enormous array of smart devices to be had (like, all IKEA bulbs and sensors are Zigbee).
Z-wave is a great protocol. The downsides are it's licensed, and most Z-wave products cost more than Zigbee, and it uses different wireless bands in different parts of the world. Zigbee is more of a 2.4 ghz free-for all... which comes with its own problems. But a good mesh zigbee works well.
The grind now is just straight up disrespectful. Nice going though. My guy is still languishing in the 220s.
When you buy a new kitchen appliance, and it works perfectly, and then you think about how long it takes to set up and clean and wonder if it's worth it when there are knives.
Got a cheap but tall and sturdy tripod off Amazon today. I'm concerningly a little too excited over being able to use a laser level at 2 meter height to line up stuff that's getting mounted to the wall, but there you go.

Plenty of dirt cheap choices now. Not from the name brands, perhaps, and you do need a certain tolerance for Chinese hardware. But ServeTheHome has reviewed a ton of the Chinese stuff.

I have several pi boxes in smartipi screen cases running PiCorePlayer. Bedroom has a pi Amp hat (sounds killer) and living room a digi out hat. Though pi 3 is enough, less heat too.

The automatic shifting walls let you leave when you place enough items in the cart.
Judicious censorship with things like child mode can have its place but it sure doesn't make parenting optional.
One issue there is that if the pump fails, cooling goes to zero immediately. But lots of people use and like them.
Pump can still fail and then the components overheat instantly. Big hunk of metal air cooling heat sink soaks up heat even with a dead fan.
Water pumps make noise. Meanwhile my htpc simply doesn't run its (silent) fans at all 99% of the time, the heat sink is that beefy.
Only reason to do it is if the goal is to produce an art piece. A workaday pc has giant air coolers. Even if the fan breaks, they still cool the components - if a water pump fails the machine overheats immediately. Plus leaks etc of course.
I run 10 gig optical between my switches now. Brands from China like Sodola, managed with 2.5 gig copper and a few SFP ports, are well under $100. A dirt cheap 10 port SFP switch ties them together. It was very undramatic to upgrade. Sure, wiring, but fiber is thin and quite easy to handle.
Not that you need my approval or lack thereof, but this was the right thing to do. I don't care if people cheat in PvE if they don't are about keeping their accounts, but day one raids are different. People who do them should have a level playing field.

Yep. Although to be honest mine is pretty unisex, can't go too dainty as a guy (unless your style is a little flamboyant to begin with) or it will look a little off. But, we all have styles which is why it's nice there are so much to choose from.

So you're advocating carrying something just as big and heavy, but sharply limited in its use cases... because what, aesthetics bother you? Obviously I wouldn't buy a 400 buck knife, but for 50-60 bucks you can get a good folding knife for life.
There's no maybe about it, I need to open packages at work fairly often. There are many uses for a simple folding pocket knife that are legitimately useful in the day to day. Can you live without one? Sure. But why would you?

I definitely have (and have benefited from) a stain removal pen in my sling. There's also band-aids for boo-boos, mouth spray, a folding hair brush, various wet wipes, various OTC meds for pain... and yes, flashlight, power bank and a small multi-tool too. A Nanobag sling too... for groceries.
Only if you call every woman (almost) for the past 100 years preppers; hand bags are ubiquitous with women and they keep useful stuff in there. Tissues, wet wipes, and more. Guys have just started realizing that maybe it's nice to have a bit more than keys in your pocket in the day to day.

It wasn't as aggravating as Neomuna but it had its aggravating moments. Requiring you to go into arc ball mode in the middle of a boss fight seemed to be a bit too far for yours truly. Also hated the destination, just a tight little snarl of looping tunnels. Where's the majesty?

Redoing the main entry so it's not a nasty cluttered black cave; new lighting, storage etc. New lights going in the kitchen and laundry area. After that, work in the living room slash home theater, and new lights in the hallway too, etc. It's work but looks great when it comes together.
There's a record breaking heat wave out there. Thank fuck I have air conditioning, not the norm in these parts (yet). It manages to keep the house livable. So since I don't wanna go out, I've been finally getting to the home decorating stuff I've had lined up forever. Kind of satisfying.
Yup. Best thing for mouse aim accuracy is low sensitivity and an enormous mouse pad. It does limit how fast you can turn in a snap but what's the point of turning super fast if you then miss the broad side of a barn? Make sure mouse accel is off in Windows too. 👍

I wanted to get rid of Windows for all the obvious reasons, and frankly madVR was beginning to become a nuisance. The betas that are available (and only betas are) are time bombed so you go to watch a movie and suddenly quality is ass and you realize it's upgrade time... no more of that.
Moved my home theater PC to Linux instead of WIndows. Took quite a while because I kept doing dumb stuff and then having to figure out what was wrong. But, Kodi is running and MPV is playing optimized processed video, quality is great. Not quite Windows + madVR filters, but close.
Congrats to them, that took a while. Seems like the difficulty on this one is on point. Not easy, but doable.

Then I decided to try the absolute gold standard on Warlock, the Getaway Artist Prismatic build and it's still stronger, w the Khovostov. That armor could presumably even give a raid team an edge. Some exploited this, others did not. It should be a level playing field, people who leveled differently but at the same level of difficulty should get the same amount of reward.

Wow. It's warm enough outside my single mini split is struggling to keep the temps inside down. Still, a few degrees warmer than room temp is better than a bunch of degrees and it's scrubbing away the moisture so it's still comfortable.

I have some standalone air purifiers with sensors, they tend to run on minimum. I live in the boonies so the air quality doesn't change a lot, indoors or out. In bigger cities though the need for purifiers goes way up.
