In addition to giving him the medal, he's appointing Rudy as Administrator of DOGE.

As an old, I was working at Hollywood Video when this movie hit home video. Store TVs had to be playing either G-rated movies or the terrible trailer loop. This became such a favorite that we wore out copies, and this may actually be the movie I have seen the most in my life. So, here for it.

The past few months has definitely worn me down to the point of expecting SCOTUS to make up some king bullshit, but I'm going to cling to the faint sliver of hope that this is the time they say no. Nothing I can do about it either way, but might as well dream I'm not in the literal Worst Timeline.

I think it makes sense as a political horse-trade acceptable to most of the GOP but I'm unsure they could get Trump to play along. Being FORCED to fire someone he appointed would activate his stupidest and worst impulses. He'd demand the filibuster be sac'd before RFK, I think?
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
Bondi and Noem can be Derpy and Sussy. Gwi-Ma is Putin. It's all deeply stupid, but so is everything these days.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social)
In "Stupid Things I Can't Stop Thinking About" news, Trump's hand sent me down this "What if they're Patterns?" spiral and now I'm mentally recasting the Saja Boys with the Trump Admin. Trump as Jinu, Vance as Baby Saja, Hegseth as Abby because I hate everything, RFK as Mystery, Rubio as Romance.

So much of Discourse is 'This Dem pol stands out for doing good thing; here's why they must/most not be the nom in 2028!' We can just normalize Dem politicians doing good things as part of the jobs they already have! It's ok! We shouldn't feel like they're only doing it to audition for President!

Do they ever test messaging that sounds like how 'regular' people, the ones with the kitchen tables they're obsessed with, actually talk? Every single message they tested is going to sound like the teacher in a Peanuts cartoon to anyone who isn't already invested enough to already know these things.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
Trump's One Special Boy status pollutes trying to discuss policy he's enacted, because nobody paying attention thinks the rules will be applied the same way to anyone else. And if we're going to fantasize impossible policies we won't be allowed to implement, I don't think this one makes the list.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
Withholding Congressionally approved CHIPS funds and threatening to demand a CEO be replaced so that a company gives him a stake doesn't scale beyond Trump. There's no expectation a non-Trump president could do exactly this and get away with it; GOP Congress would stop him, SCOTUS maybe.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
I have no idea what he goes on to do professionally, but at this point I 100% expect it to include a post-loss announcement that the Mamdani proves the Democratic Party has gone insane and he's being forced to join the GOP. Like he is absolutely going to go in for the party-swap grifter angle.

Nobody at any level should support a single man arbitrarily taxing just, sort of, whatever however he wants by abusing emergency powers. Calling the self-appointed king's backroom deals a wealth tax taints the concept and makes a real one a harder sell in the future.

I'm pretty sure it was announced last week that after speaking w/lawyers they'd be doing this once California had established their counter-gerrymander plans. This isn't a breaking pivot, it's expected--CA to counter TX, legislators go back to do things like flood relief.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
He also seems to be rewriting video game history to try to make this seem like a new development; while we went through a period of 'woke' game dev being in-vogue, online gaming has always had a heavy cesspool bias. GamerGate literally gets credited for helping make the alt right a thing!

Super weird to know that the president of Ukraine + a bunch of EU leaders are going to be in the White House tomorrow to meet with Trump, and my biggest hope is that they tell the US president to eat shit and kick him out of the coalition. Trump is just Putin's creature, and not to be trusted.

It was my favorite on initial viewing, and someone on here did a list of 'what your kid's favorite KPDH song says about them', and they had What It Sounds Like as "You're never going to be able to tell this kid shit", or something, and... yeah. Good song and it meets the moment IMO.

We used to think John Roberts cared about the legacy of his court; no way to believe that now. It's not even about the corruption; Trump's level of desperate, slimy patheticness is hitching levels of cringe to the Roberts' court that science previously thought impossible.

I absolutely hate that all discussion of what Newsom and Pritzker are doing is met with HE SHOULD GET THE NOM IN 2028. Normalize governors standing up for democracy. Using the power their voters gave them to fight for those voters should be the bare-minimum expectation, not grounds for promotion.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
What we actually need are billionaires going "Here are some things I actively do more than the bare minimum; here's how we can convince others to do the same." You want to be seen as on our side? You have the capital to do good in ways we can't; use it to do good and help us make that the default.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social)
This a billionaire on Team Rich explaining how plebs can bribe the wealthy to exploit them less. They'd just exploit loopholes to maximize tax breaks with as little benefit to us as legally allowed. That's not innovation. They already do that.

To me the scary part of ChatGPT's inability to count letters isn't that it gets the answer wrong; it's that we're however long into this and the model still presents that it can count letters. It's getting better at getting the right answer, but it will still present confident, wrong answers.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
LLMs can lie. They do lie. They're incapable of not lying, because there's no intent--there's insanely impressive pattern matching, statistics and such I cannot comprehend, and there's presentation that calculates what a human is likely have said to give the appearance of thought... but no intent.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
People en masse understand computers to be relatively reliable because they're all 1s and 0s, can't lie, and follow set programs. Moreover, computers generally behave in intentional ways--bugs and viruses and human dishonesty can lead to unexpected results, but there's a why behind it.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social)
The point of the 'lol AI can't count' isn't that AI is bad at counting characters. It's that this is a basic deterministic computer task AI companies have apparently made no progress in figuring out how to integrate with LLMs, OR how to make their models refuse to do.

Why do you assume AI (by which I assume you mean the LLMs people are trying to shove into everything at the moment) would be the right fix here? Why is the push not a generalized 'what are Dems going to do to reduce the barrier to entry', and instead 'how can we use the latest fad to do it?'
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social)
Starting to really think the future of Trump's connection with his base is going to depend on how the Rogans and Theo Vons take the BS they're about to pull with Maxwell. Trump's connection with his base is fraying; I really think the base is going to follow where the 'outsiders' lead.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
I understood how secretly promising her a pardon to be revealed at the end of his term would let him placate his base--they wouldn't know. I don't understand why he thinks telling them he might pardon the sex trafficker work.s Which doesn't mean it won't, just that they continue to do the dumbest.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
Didn't we just go through a major uproar because SCOTUS is, for reasons they refuse to explain, letting Trump effectively fire enough people to render the DOE nonfunctional? What's fascinating to me is that Trump is stupidly denying the letter entirely, instead of just calling it locker room talk from before Epstein was outed. He could absolutely be getting away from this clean w/his base, but he's so determined to control the narrative that he's enflaming it all.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
It's a lie but I enjoy that the lie they're going with is 'Trump is a soft boy whose delicate hands cannot handle handshakes.'

I know the Golden Dome thing is out of the news right now, but I will give $20 to any journalist who asks Trump if he's at all concerned that the Golden Honmoon South Korea's been working on will technologically outstrip it. If he acted like he knew about it, the resultant memes would be legendary.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social)
The MAGA conspiracy I'm currently hoping catches on: That Trump flip-flopped on the Epstein list because he learned that one of his sons is somewhere in it. I don't believe it, but I do like that the "fatherly love" angle lets them start believing he's doing the Bad Thing for a 'pure' reason.

Years of "He's just doing it to distract us from..." from various corners of the internet, and now we're hitting a point where he's going to try to destroy the US economy as a distraction because he's losing control over his own cult. This is the stupidest timeline.
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
I half want to start pushing a theory to MAGA that Roberts is somewhere in the Epstein files, and Trump is keeping them secret in exchange for favorable rulings. Not because I believe it, but if I have to live in this stupid timeline where nothing matters anymore, why not.

Every time this comparison comes up, I feel like I need to defend Camacho. He put the smartest man in the country in his cabinet, was willing to penalize Joe when he tanked the economy, but immediately pardoned him when it turned out his plan worked. Trump would never.

Early Discworld is not great; Pratchett grew a lot and the early books feel wildly out of place. Writing off, say, Night Watch because of The Light Fantastic is like writing off Andor bc of the Star Wars Holiday Special. (Not trying to convert, just agreeing early DW is hard to get through.)
ExtremelyBitter (@extremelybitter.bsky.social) reply parent
This is a totally fair and rational read. Luckily for Bondi, the people most invested in the Epstein client list are famously rational and willing to believe common-sense explanations that don't feed into a fantastical worldview; they should have no problem accepting this answer.

Love that it's nonsense from the jump--three Senators to swing key votes only works if the rest of the Senate is actually divided and those votes swing the win. If we have a uniparty, and current opposition is pageantry, his senators get ignored as the other 97 coordinate.
