i think it’s done a disservice to how people talk about this stuff that all versions of pattern recognition tech are called “ai” and grouped with llms. pattern recognition is something people are bad at and tech can help! but i am skeptical specifically of reproducing patterns in language
best example i can think of is that calculators (much lower rate of error than llms, etc etc) are really helpful for math! but we also don’t start out by using them, we teach people what the numbers mean so that, hopefully they can understand what they are using it for.
i do think there are interesting ai use cases that can be helpful, particularly in some medical areas but i have yet to see one that doesn’t require the person using it to have enough knowledge to interpret the results and know when they are wrong
for sure! i appreciate your input because i do think my initial post was skewed towards saying that everyone should/can develop those specific skills when i was meaning to be more specific. character limits can certainly make the nuance in these discussions hard sometimes.
i do qualify as at risk for a couple of reasons and i will not publicly advocate for anyone to lie, but i will let people know that all you have to do is check a little button that says "yes i qualify" and it's fine
