The most crucial thing going forward is to find an effective way to deal with the "flooding the zone with shit" strategy. Journalists and media outlets need to reflect on their role in making the said strategy work when they thought they were being impartial and adhering to journalistic principles.

Taiwan was under authoritarian rule in 1972. Today, Taiwan is a widely recognized vibrant democracy promoting peace, health, technological advances, etc. The world - including Japan - would be wise to treat Taiwan much better than it did in 1972.
