"Funding the Forest" is a thing I set up where multiple critters can help fund original comics/art in ongoing settings like the Forest, and Max the Eevee. Contributors don't get any input into how the stories go, but they do get early access to WIPs while I'm drawing them <3

I love that your approach to art is that you want to draw fun little kobolds doing things and that they have a mood and that when I see them, I can tell you drew them. It's a really healthy, good way to make art. The skill - the hard part of art - is doing that stuff. <3
People care about art when it makes them see something or feel something about the world that they care about, or when they can tell that the artist is seeing something that they care about. Everything else is incidental. So I really appreciate you having a style and putting up fun pictures.
Nopony reads an essay and thinks, "fuck, that's some good grammar in that essay. They used very big words." Nopony looks at a piece of art and thinks, "fuck, that line work is so steady. I gotta hang that on my wall, have you seen how clean the lines are?" It's just not the point of art.
The hard part of my job as a commission artist is not the technical part, it's figuring out how to represent an idea. Art is communicative and technical skill can help with that, in the same way that grammar can help with communicating in an essay, but it's not the point of the essay.
I really appreciate you posting them. Going to keep myself from going on a giant oversharing tangent, but I think a lot of critters have a really fundamentally broken and incorrect view of what art even is and what makes it hard. Technical skill is at best a means to an end.

I would not call this a "secret weapon" because I'm not being secretive about it and I'm trying to get it merged into Krita proper. But this is enabling me to set up a coloring workflow for fast sketches that would not be otherwise possible to do in Krita.
A few ideas that I'm mulling over that I may try to add to my local Krita build are: "interpolate alpha", which would smoothly lerp the alpha channel towards the stroke, but otherwise color normally. And a "greater erase" which would subtract alpha, but only to a certain point based on pressure.
I'm actually inspired enough by this that I would not be surprised if I end up copying and pasting this code and making other alpha blend modes to use, because now that I'm using this for colors, I'm able to visualize more clearly other stuff I want.
Continuing to advocate that a basic version of this get merged: krita-artists.org/t/wet-alpha-... I've been using this for a little over a week, and it is changing my sketch-style coloring process in a very positive way. This has already been a major boon to me for coloring speed/quality. #krita
Which is weird since according to "it's only banned because there's so many chargebacks", subscribestar[.]adult should be swimming in fraud, and yet somehow it's able to offer prices that are lower than Patreon. I guess it's either a miracle.. or the "chargeback" excuse is bullshit. Who can tell?

It is genuinely possible for this space to be better, but it *can't* improve until the payment processors get sorted out.
If Stripe (not that Stripe is ethical, but.. you know what I mean) - if Stripe got enough pressure that it got rid of its NSFW clause - I would drop everything at the earliest opportunity and immediately set up a system for direct credit card payments for supporters. The ecosystem would explode <3
The problem isn't that Patreon took over everything, the problem is that everything is subject to the whims of payment processor censorship, and until that gets solved, there won't be ethical platforms that pop up; they won't be allowed to exist. In the meantime, we make do with what we have.
Also to be clear, sometimes the reason why there are no ethical choices is because some giant company bought everything and consolidated it, and that's also like.. not really what's happened here? We are systematically excluded by platforms and payment processors from every other space.
"Not ethical choices under Capitalism", sure, but also like.. this is an area where there *could* be more ethical choices. Not fully ethical, but better. There used to be more choices, and they went away. It's a big part of why NSFW artists have been emphasizing calling and pushing back.
Basically. Like I'm willing to inconvenience myself to have more ethical choices, I'm even willing to put in a ton of work to build better options - and I've tried to organize movements to better sites in the past. This is an area where there is nothing I can do unless payment processors buckle.

I've never done the full-on math to try and figure it out to be sure, but Patreon's base take is 10% plus paypro fees, right? I think that's more than Subscribestar takes. It's at least very close.
Another thing I'll point out (I always need to double-check this lol): I am pretty sure that unless an artist kept their plan on an old account, new accounts on Patreon have a higher platform revenue share than Subscribestar. It's not *much*, but I *think* Subscribestar is actually cheaper.
The moment a Bluesky or a Mastodon equivalent to Subscribestar exists that is safe for NSFW artists to take payments on - I'll start using it. Promise. But it needs to exist. I can't take payments on an imaginary platform.
I can't even build my own Subscribestar alternative, because I can't work with payment processors or banks directly. Like, there is *zero* safe option for NSFW artists trying to do subscription revenue right now other than Subscribestar. That is the problem to fix if you don't like the site.
But right now, if you tell somepony that the *only* platform that is safe to use shouldn't be used, what you are telling them is that they shouldn't have a platform at all. This is part of the consequence of platforms squeezing out NSFW artists. They go to platforms that will take them.
I'm not married to Subscribestar, there's plenty I hate about the site, including lax moderation of bigots and fascists. But this is not like Twitter vs Bluesky, or Substack vs Ghost. There is no alternative. I'm happy to use one, once it exists.

The article is so encouraging and the comments are so unbelievably depressing.
This is not my area of expertise, but it is something I'm starting to research. I'd welcome more (and better) organizers than me. I'm really open about the fact that I am fucking BAD at all of this. But I want to start compiling email contacts for various press outlets and encouraging more mail.
In general on a lot of political topics, as Progressives we're not really good at getting the press to work with us. Look at coverage of the last No Kings demonstration. It's important that we start to change this and figure out how to get press coverage. We need to start expanding in smart ways.
I think the big challenge we're going to face moving forward is how to keep relevant stories in the news and how to break them out of sites like Bluesky and gaming forums and into a wider audience. And so I'm very slowly starting to figure out other sources to email and other places to post.
Re-upping this again to make it more explicit. If you have contacts or are members on a news site or subscribe to news sources, I want you to literally email them and post in their forums and ask why they're not covering this. Literally, I want you to directly ask sites to cover it.
I'm joking of course, a modern tech reporter would never ask a CEO those questions.
Reporter: "Well, but what if it was put online for reasons other than being scraped by an AI?" AI CEO: "Oh most of it is! I'm just saying, it's not the data that we want in the model. They're sabotaging us." Reporter: "But it's not for the model." AI CEO: "I don't understand what you're saying."

The employees are not sabotaging the company - they're sabotaging the company's "AI strategy." Their betrayal is not that they're costing the company money, or hurting its output, or not doing their jobs - their betrayal is that they're not enthusiastically increasing AI adoption.
There's something deeply revealing about the fact that the goal is not "make the business successful", it's "integrate the AI." Doing work without the AI is seen as a betrayal because the point of all of this is not to *do work* - the point is to use the AI. #AIBullshit

When critters look at crypto I think they tend to imagine an ecosystem that is a lot more capable than it actually is. And like.. I dunno, I'm sure that the county that has floated banning VPNs would definitely not blacklist coins that went through a mixer /sarcasm.
Bitcoin is a lot easier to track than most critters realize - and it has an obvious censorship point of attack - exchanges. There are privacy-oriented coins, but.. they're not nearly as widespread (not that any of them are in a position to be feasibly used as an alternative right now).
I've seen two cases so far. I don't know the country for the first, for the one I've linked above the poster says that they're in England. I kind of doubt Paypal is making these decisions based on the country of origin for each person/critter, but it does affect what options they have.

Very important thread, read through the whole thing! We gotta keep up the pressure. I'll admit I get scared about calling because I'm very autistic and it's intimidating but the goal is to clog up their call lines and cost them money so the more people we get participating in this the better.
And you're right - every call helps, even if you stammer through it or have trouble with it. They know why we're protesting already, our job now with calling is to annoy them <3
Ideally for any social movement, we'd have division of labor - making phone calls is super-important but not everypony will be well suited for them. But I'm really grateful that critters with anxiety have been helping out even though it's stressful <3 <3
I think 3rd-party coverage from papers/sites is going to be really important, and might be a *really* effective way for critters with anxiety to help without needing to make phone calls. But I'm very much not an expert, so I want to figure out what advice I should be giving before I give it.
I don't have enough knowledge about this yet to make recommendations and I'm wary of giving bad advice, but I want to do research on the most effective way to email journalists.
Challenge mode, try to survive with only one character: - Partner must be eaten as soon as possible. - You can only rescue them if they're going to be immediately eaten again. - They can't use any actions other than to take damage or get eaten (including potions).
