It's a real bummer that due to complete and total mismanagement we're arguably the only legacy NASL team that was truly relevant and successful not playing in some form today. It's great that FTL does again have a true pro club of its own, but still sad it's not in Red & Gold.

48 years ago today, April 9, 1977, pro soccer came to #FortLauderdale for the 1st time. The @ftlstrikers.bsky.social defeated the St. Louis Stars 2-1 at Lockhart Stadium, & ever since Broward County has been the heart of soccer in southern Florida. Today #FTLUTD carries on the legacy! #WeAreFTL

One of those names ring a bell? Neveleff was briefly manager of @ftlstrikers.bsky.social for the Spring 2015 season. Later he'd go on to manage Orlando City B, assistant manager for New England Revs & USA U-20s, and is currently also the manager of the Dominican Republic national team. #FTLUTD

On this day 8 years ago, a Fort Lauderdale Strikers team took the field for the last time (...for now). A U20 squad, wearing black and yellow, finished as runners-up in the Lauderhill Youth Soccer Classic on December 18, 2016.
