For everyone saying political violence has no place in this country… Remember two Democratic legislators were shot in Minnesota just this year. And America shrugged and moved on.

Dear @washingtonpost.com: these two paragraphs are absolute malpractice. Utterly disgraceful. You use total counts, not rates … for the THIRD BIGGEST CITY IN THE US. Of COURSE it has a high total. And rates “have come down” … with a link, but no number. Down FIFTY PERCENT IN FOUR YEARS.

“You look at Chicago, how bad it is. You look at Los Angeles, how bad it is,” Trump said. “We have other cities that are very bad. New York has a problem. And then you have, of course, Baltimore and Oakland. We don’t even mention that anymore. They’re so, so far gone. We’re not going to let it happen.” Chicago, a city of about 2.7 million people, has had the most homicides in the country in each of the past 13 years, with 573 in 2024. Like D.C. and many other major cities, it had a spike in homicides and other violent crime during the covid pandemic, though rates have come down since.

The responses to this from some on the left are just what Trump & MAGAs want. Either this is an existential crisis or it’s not. If it is, then anti-Trump allies are anti-Trump allies, even if not on everything. “Well, that position you took 3 years ago was wrong” is a fight we can’t afford anymore.

And also! Massive respect and thanks to @crownpublishing.bsky.social for believing in this material, and helping build the movement to inform everyone about how far from safety and justice our legal system really is.

I have big news: I wrote a book! It’s called The Price of Mercy, and it’s about the violence, cruelty, and dysfunction baked into our legal system, and what we can do about it. It’s full of real-world stories, hard data, and the voices of people fighting to fix what’s broken.

Comment by Laurence Tribe of Harvard Law saying that The Price of Mercy is, quite simply, the gutsiest book ever written about the gritty reality of something nobody who reads this astonishing inside-the-walls account can continue to call the criminal justice system. Comment by Jane Mayer, Author of Dark Money, saying Picture of the book, which has a cream cover with a black crack down the middle and a small woman in a suit standing on the edge of the crack, which splits her shadow. The title The Price of Mercy is in red, and the subtitle, in blue, reads Unfair Trials, a Violent System, and a Public Defender's Search for Justice in America. The author's name, Emily Galvin Almanza, is in red at the bottom. The image notes that the book will be on sale February 17th, 2026. Quote from Congressman Jamie Raskin reading

The TSA is claiming they aren't storing your face...but they really really don't want to tell you that you have the right to opt out, and they really really don't want a bill saying they can't store your face. share.google/9JXUQZcZhfOV...

It’s a disgrace that Massachusetts pays criminal defense attorneys $65 per hour when New Hampshire pays twice that much. Our state cannot claim to be serious about equal justice unless it rectify this injustice. www.bostonglobe.com/2025/07/24/o...

Please watch. Being tough on crime is not about more cops, more jails. Another component: special education services. If you don't give disadvantaged disabled kids special education when they're in school, you're setting them for higher jail risk as adults.

So I read a really dystopian piece of research... which I will tell you about here. But the good news is that this piece of research highlighted, for me, all the ways we could lower crime (fairly easily!)...if we chose to. Watch for more 👇👇👇 youtube.com/shorts/qzEoy...
