I live 3 blocks from the Columbia campus. People constantly asked “is it crazy up there?” Meanwhile, the only indication that anything out of the ordinary was happening were the non-stop helicopters (police + news media) telling the rest of the world that it’s a “war zone”. Helicopters suck.

Not for nothing but in NYC, a large percentage of vehicles used by app drivers do not have valid registration and if they have plates, they’re out of state and don’t match the vehicle. But folks look the other way because #convenience

Sounds a lot like how Traffic Enforcement got sucked into the NYPD. Meanwhile, I don’t know a single cop who wants to do traffic enforcement.

That said, the FDNY EMS contract is utter trash and the pay disparity among NYPD, FDNY FF, and FDNY EMS is inexcusable.

Off the top of my head it’s because of all of the various private for-profit EMS services that compete with FDNY EMS, running lights & sirens as multiple units dangerously compete to get to the scene first. We don’t have private for-profit Fire Fighters in NYC. But that’s just a guess.

This was my uncle. He often boasted about his collection to his buddies & at the VFW. He had a medical incident & was taken by ambulance to the hospital, the next order of business for my dad was to locate & secure his cache of firearms so they didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Not fun.

In his defense, the final straw for me and FNC was watching The Five and shaking my head as GG described NYC as a hellscape wasteland, only to bump into him a couple of hours later, dining al fresco in SoHo…I also gave him a dirty look but it didn’t work since apparently he still lives here.

This confirms my hunch that none of these people understand how NYC housing actually works. Also, Cuomo let my landlord get away with being racist and awful when was well aware they were breaking the law. Cuomo is why we don’t have more stabilized apartments. www.nydailynews.com/2015/03/17/c...

Nothing quite like the looming dread that starts approx 2 months after signing an NYC lease, wondering if your landlord is going to raise your rent by a crippling amount (mine was 50%). Good Cause has improved this a bit but it still sucks to plan your life around “maybe I have to move in April”

Cops literally sleeping on the job or so engrossed in their phones probably doesn’t help recruitment or public perception. Yes, I know it’s not ALL cops but it’s pervasive enough that anyone paying attention can spot it regularly. Broadway & 35th Street (parked illegally) at 10:45am.

Compton, CA: A masked, heavily-armed man wearing body armor jumped out of a SUV today to kidnap a local resident. He forgot to put the vehicle in park, causing it to roll down the street damaging other cars. He jumped in the vehicle (which had no platess) and drove off without identifying himself.

Nearly final CBO score of the GOP reconciliation plan is out. Their bill would cut program spending by $1.5 trillion but spend $312 billion more on defense, ICE, etc., for a total of $1.2 trillion in spending cuts. Plus $3.6 trillion in tax cuts. For a total of $2.4 trillion in higher deficits.

We had VIA for a bit in NYC. It was like Uber Pool but with sprinter vans & much lower prices. The big benefit is that they didn’t do door to door rides, sticking just to the avenues and major cross streets. Not unlike a bus…but more predictable w/ a guaranteed seat. It was fantastic. RIP Via!
