The Trolley Problem has always annoyed me. As somebody who is now certified to operate a trolley all by himself, the obvious solution to the problem is to throw the points while the car is moving over them, causing it to either split or pick the switch, halting the car before it runs over anybody.
I see your point, yes, and I agree that there shouldn't be restrictions. Just the irony of the anti-choice crowd wanting to restrict birth control, thus making unintended pregnancies far more common, leading to more people seeking to end them.
I wouldn't say that there is a concession in wanting abortions to be "safe, legal and rare". Rather the hope that widespread availability of birth control would cut down on the number of unintended pregnancies in the first place.
I like to say that "Go ahead, ban gender-affirming care. So we should also ban hair-removal, hair-restoration, breast implants, testosterone supplements, and ED drugs".
I'd hate to get bronzer on my paws, though.
