NDP: best we can do is a weak sauce statement that doesn't even condemn the principle of the book ban, just politely suggesting that it's maybe not the right time.
This is exactly the sort of weakness that is going to lead to the NDP going back down to two seats. I have yet to see any evidence that this NDP is able and willing to meet the moment.
I find it hard to call it secret dark money when BTC was openly talking about being a part of a group of liberal content creators going to Washington to meet with Democrats to encourage them to "embrace independent media." If this was intended to be secret, they're worse at opsec than Hegseth.

Without amending, repealing, or meeting the requirements of the Clarity Act, there is only one other way to secede: over the dead bodies of Indigenous and Canadian loyalists alike. The purpose of a winning referendum without doing any of the other stuff is merely to provide the pretext for war.
If the separatists were sincere about wanting to do it legally/peacefully then the Alberta caucus of the CPC would split off to be a BQ-style party and we'd be flooded with ads featuring all of the FN and Métis leaders they've managed to recruit. They have no intention of making the necessary moves.

Everybody knows that if such a referendum was ever held and the coal/UCP side lost, they would ignore the result and laugh at us for being so stupid as to think this mechanism would ever allow any change they didn't already want. And we would deserve all the laughter if we actually are that stupid.
Any other leader who lost their own seat but lead the party to victory in 23 others would be unassailable. He does lead a famously capricious caucus, so it might still happen, but if they're smart they will quietly find him a safe seat. He could be fine. But it would still be extremely funny.

It's obvious what the AfD is. I was making a sarcastic jab at the use of the phrase "economic anxiety" to whitewash the embrace of fascism.

The advice I've been getting is to ignore electoral politics and online discourse in favour of going outside, getting to know my neighbours, and seeking out a local mutual aid group that's giving out food to people who need it. I'm concerned that taking this advice will not be sufficient.

My own opinion is that it's good to signal (through words and/or actions) the virtues that you value; that's one of the most important parts of maintaining a healthy community.
"Women are people" and "Nazis are bad" are not subject to debate in any space I want to be a part of. But it was just the last straw. I was also shocked at how much of my feed was revealed to be just reels and "suggested posts" that were mostly AI-generated slop after filtering that stuff out.
