A child knocking on your door is not a threat. If your response is to reach for a gun and shoot, you’ve failed the basic standard of responsible gun ownership. Guns demand care, training, and accountability—especially when kids’ lives are at stake. www.nytimes.com/2025/08/31/u...

The students that survived the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School and their families will forever carry the trauma of this day with them. We’ll always work to build the safer future they deserve so that they can learn and pray free from gun violence.

From Newark to Washington, he’s never wavered in fighting for families and protecting kids. We’re proud to endorse him for reelection.

This week, gun violence once again devastated innocent families — making clear that the stakes are too high not to act. To reestablish a gun safety majority in the Senate next fall and get things done, we need champions like @corybooker.com leading the fight.

Harper’s parents shared that she was a bright, joyful, and deeply loved child whose laughter, kindness, and spirit touched everyone who knew her. Her family is shattered by this loss, especially her younger sister. Our hearts are with both families as they grieve this unimaginable tragedy.

Fletcher’s family said he loved his friends, fishing, cooking, and playing sports. They are devastated that they can never again hold him, talk to him, or watch him grow up.

Eight-year-old Fletcher Merkel and 10-year-old Harper Moyski were killed Wednesday in the shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church. They should both still be here.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
Our children’s lives must always come first. But the gun lobby wants you to believe we need to choose between our kids and our freedoms. That’s not true—we can protect both. Commonsense gun laws go hand-in-hand with our Second Amendment rights.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
Gun violence is the number one killer of kids in America. Thoughts and prayers alone have never been, and never will be enough to keep them safe. We can’t let another child experience the trauma of gun violence. Text COURAGE to 34131 to join us in the fight today.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
Today, the children at Annunciation Catholic School were shot while praying. Two were killed in the pews. Thoughts and prayers are NOT enough. We need immediate and comprehensive gun safety laws. That’s what saves lives.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
We’re devastated to learn that two children—aged eight and 10— were killed in the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. 17 others were injured, including 14 children—two in critical condition. Our hearts are with their families as they face this unbearable tragedy.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
Today in Annunciation Church in Minneapolis, school started at 8am. Mass began at 8:15am. A gunman opened fire at 8:30am. 20 people were shot and at least two are confirmed dead. This shouldn’t be normal.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
BREAKING: A man with a rifle opened fire at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis, home to a K–8 school. Multiple casualties reported. For children who just started their very first week of school, the sound they’ll remember is gunfire. This is horrifying.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
Two years ago today, a white supremacist shot and killed three people at a Dollar General in Jacksonville, Florida. Racist hate and easy access to guns is a fatal combination. As we hold the victims & survivors in our hearts, we urge our leaders to honor their lives with action and disarm hate.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
Last week, 3 people—including a 4-year-old—were shot & killed at a Target in Austin, TX. A red flag law could’ve prevented the suspected shooter from accessing a gun, but TX doesn’t have one. We know how to prevent these tragedies. Our leaders must act.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
VICTORY: We are suing Glock for selling semiautomatic handguns they know can easily be converted into illegal machine guns. A court ruled that our suit can move forward. The gun industry is not above the law. This is a major win for public safety in Minnesota.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
BREAKING: Villanova University is on lockdown after reports of an active shooter on campus. VU’s Class of 2029 had barely settled in after Move-In yesterday before being confronted a school shooting’s terror. We’re praying for the safety of those impacted. www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/v...

Governor Ron DeSantis chose to erase a tribute to the 49 lives taken at Pulse. Instead of vandalizing memorials, Florida leaders should focus on preventing more families from experiencing this kind of loss.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
The Trump administration is telling criminals they can ignore the law and walk around DC with AR-15s. That's the opposite of "law abiding gun owners." This is what happens when you care more about sucking up to gun industry CEOs than enforcing the law and reducing crime.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
The gun lobby has bought a number of extreme Republicans in Congress—and Rep. Ciscomani is one of their biggest allies. He takes their money, then opposes common-sense reforms that would save lives. Yesterday in Tucson, we joined @stopbigmoneyaz.bsky.social & local leaders to hold him accountable.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
Parents in Tucson and across America are worried about sending their kids to school. So we joined @endcitizensunited.bsky.social, @azagmayes.bsky.social and @adelitaforcongress.bsky.social to demand action. Every child deserves to learn without fear of gunfire. www.kgun9.com/news/communi...

Officer David Rose was shot and killed last week by a gunman who fired more than 200 shots at the federal government’s CDC headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Donald Trump still hasn’t said a single thing. Our police and public servants deserve better.

Everyone deserves to feel safe, but Juan Ciscomani puts gun industry CEO profits above the safety of Arizona families. He's backed cuts to law enforcement & weakened background checks on guns. We must hold him accountable.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
The Austin Target shooting left a community reeling, with experts warning of lasting trauma. But the Trump Administration's $1 billion cut to mental health funding will make recovery harder. In moments like this, we must invest in care—not rip it away.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
So this is literally insane. DC’s US Attorney Jeanine Pirro doesn’t think defunding gun violence prevention efforts has anything to do with gun crime.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
BREAKING: Multiple people have been shot & killed at a Target in Austin, Texas. Others are injured, including a child. We don’t even have time to grieve in between mass shootings in America. Our hearts are with all those impacted in yet another tragedy.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
If Donald Trump actually cared about safety in DC—or across the US—he'd champion national policies to stop gun crime. DC is helpless as guns flow in from states that refuse to close loopholes. This cheap stunt will succeed in making headlines, but fail to make DC safer.

GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
In his first six months back in office, Trump has made America less safe. He rolled back proven safeguards, effectively legalized machine guns, and slashed critical violence prevention & mental health funding. Gun crime will increase and people will die.

GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
NEW: Stronger gun laws are linked to fewer firearm suicides, according to @NorthwellHealth. Gun violence is a public health crisis, but not one without solutions. We know what they are, and we know that they work – we just need leaders to stand up to the gun lobby and pass them.

GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
BREAKING: The House just passed Trump’s “Big, Ugly Bill.” Ripping Medicaid and SNAP benefits away from millions of Americans isn’t enough for them. This bill also makes it easier for dangerous people to buy gun silencers and short-barreled rifles & shotguns. It will make us all less safe.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)

Gun silencers make shootings deadlier and put law enforcement at increased risk. Until now, silencers are rarely used in crimes because current law has successfully stopped them from falling into dangerous hands. If the House votes yes on this bill, America will be more dangerous.

Researchers have found that homicides were at or near historic lows in 2024—and are on track to drop even more in 2025. One main factor? Increased funding to community organizations that prevent violence before it happens.

They plan to cut over 500 ATF inspectors — leaving just a few hundred to oversee thousands of gun dealers. This would make it even harder for an already underfunded ATF to investigate gun crimes, trace illegal firearms, and ensure gun dealers follow the law. It will also make us all less safe.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
🚨 The Trump admin is planning to overhaul ATF, crippling the only fed agency dedicated to enforcing gun laws. The “law & order” party wants to cut the agency that stops illegal gun sales, because they prioritize CEO profits over the safety of Americans.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org) reply parent
Silencers make shootings deadlier and put law enforcement at increased risk. But the Trump admin and extremist Republicans were trying to make them accessible for anyone, no questions asked. We thank leaders in the Senate who spoke out against this provision and fought to have it removed.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
VICTORY: The dangerous provision to remove background checks on all gun silencer and short barreled firearm sales was STRUCK from Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.” This is a win for gun safety and American communities.
GIFFORDS (@giffords.org)
This week, a three-year-old picked up an unsecured gun and killed a 19-year-old in a home near Atlanta, Georgia. Safe storage saves lives, but GA doesn't have the laws needed to prevent these senseless tragedies. Georgia’s leaders must act – lives are on the line.
