Marylanders who are struggling with substance use are encouraged to call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, 988, to get connected to substance use and behavioral health resources.
Across the state, we’re seeing a historic decrease in fatal overdoses, with a near 40% decrease in 2024 compared to 2023. But the crisis is far from over. We must make sure every Marylander has the support they need to overcome addiction.
On #InternationalOverdoseAwarenessDay, let’s remember the lives lost, the families grieving, and those still fighting addiction. Baltimore City officials’ rapid response to a mass overdose saved dozens of lives last month, and over the past year, overdose deaths in the city have dropped by 26%.

Today we secured a major victory for public service programs and the Marylanders who rely on them. The federal government will now release over $184 million in AmeriCorps funding – across the nation - that supports volunteers who tutor students, deliver food to families, and care for state parks.

Two nights ago, we held the first Caribbean Heritage Month Reception in Government House in Maryland history. There are many stories of people being told “you don’t belong” because of who they are. Our history is our power. We will not let anyone take that away from us.
I came up in neighborhoods where the neglect of our community was intentional and deeply painful. We did not need people to save us. We needed people to support us. While the President is trying to politicize crime in Maryland, we’re working to solve it.
Our administration will continue to support families, community leaders, local law enforcement, and all of our partners in this work to keep our schools, our communities, and our entire state safe.
Dawn and I were heartbroken to learn about the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis this morning. I’ve called Governor Walz to relay our support for Minnesota at this difficult time. All children deserve to be safe at home, at school, wherever they go.
I had the honor of meeting descendants of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman, including Tarence Bailey Sr., a fellow combat vet and the President and Founder of the Bailey-Groce Family Foundation.
As long as I am governor, Maryland will stand firm in protecting every voter’s rights and making sure every voice is heard.
Women’s Equality Day reminds us that women fought and won the right to vote through tireless activism. But even after the 19th Amendment, too many were still denied that right, and today, voting rights remain threatened by the federal government.

Marylanders in Allegany and Garrett Counties are calling for support in their hour of need. Today I appealed President Trump’s denial of a Major Disaster Declaration for the flooding that occurred in Western Maryland earlier this year.
State agencies are responding to the situation near Baltimore Harbor. My office is in touch with local and federal authorities, and we are closely monitoring the situation. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
Earlier this summer, we lit the People’s House green for Scoliosis Awareness Day. We’re proud to honor the families who navigate the challenge of scoliosis every day and let them know they’re not alone in their struggle.
While the President calls in the National Guard to distract from his unpopular agenda, we’ve shown that we can achieve performance on public safety without being performative.

While Washington has raised prices on everything from food to new housing because of a manufactured trade war – We’ve partnered with the nonprofit sector to lower the cost of prescription drugs and keep Marylanders on Medicaid during the redetermination period.
While Congress cuts taxes for billionaires and runs up the national debt – We worked with the General Assembly to cut taxes for middle-class families and turn an inherited budget deficit into a surplus.
While the federal government crafts policies that make our economy weaker – We’ve attracted more than $4 billion in private investment in Maryland.
The policies coming out from D.C. are hurting Democrats AND Republicans. And if there’s anyone who understands that, it’s the leaders in our community. We are in a moment steeped in danger and laced with uncertainty. But people didn’t elect us to serve in easy times. They elected us to lead.

So far gone? Look – by working with local leaders and local law enforcement, and building trust with the community, Baltimore’s seeing one of the fastest drops in violent crime in decades, with homicides reaching a 50-year low.

Rural Marylanders, our Eastern Shore, and tens of thousands of vulnerable Marylanders are being screwed over, all so the President can cut taxes for millionaires. But we in Maryland are proving there is a better way. We’re working to prove that your zip code shouldn’t determine your fate.
2 months ago, I spoke with service members of our Army National Guard. I didn’t just thank them for their service. I let them know we’re going to support them so they can do the jobs they’re trained to do and get back safely. They deserve to be treated with respect, not to be used like props.
Putting on performative displays isn’t going to help communities besieged by gun violence. Delivering real results – as we have over the last two and a half years, with homicides down more than 20% statewide and Baltimore seeing one of the fastest drops in violent crime in decades – will.
Performative stunts won’t make our communities safer. The progress we’re seeing in Maryland comes from building partnerships and doing the work that delivers real results.
❌ No suit. ❌ No pads. ✅ Always ready to score for Maryland.
In the first half of 2025, Baltimore had the fewest homicides ever recorded – 62% decrease compared to this time three years ago. But we can’t rest. In every community, we must continue to confront violence and do all we can to keep Marylanders safe.

We will continue to coordinate with our partners across the public and private sectors, in addition to local leadership, to ensure appropriate preparedness and support.
BGE reports that the portions of the transmission system that were inoperable this morning have now been restored, and they’re continuing to assess and repair the system as needed.
We have been in constant communication with BGE throughout the day concerning the rolling outages that have impacted Marylanders in areas across central Maryland.
President Trump's decision to mobilize the National Guard to conduct municipal policing in D.C. lacks seriousness and is deeply dangerous. We await outreach from the White House if they want to have a serious conversation about public safety. But we won’t hold our breath.
Today, we honor those who put their life on the line or paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their bravery and sacrifice must never be forgotten.
All jokes aside, the investment that our state is making in our emergency personnel are serious. I come from a union family, so this is personal to me. Earlier this year, I signed 3 agreements with state union leaders to raise wages and improve working conditions for firefighters & law enforcement.

I am urging Marylanders to prepare for potential flash flooding and severe storms this afternoon. The greatest risk for impacts are along the I-95 corridor and upper Eastern Shore, but all counties, except Garrett and Allegany counties, are currently under a flood watch.
📣 ICYMI: We took a big step forward to help Marylanders access the basic services they need last week. Our new website will let people check if they’re able to enroll in Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, energy assistance, and cash assistance – all in one place.
No state can soften the blow of these cuts. But as long as I am governor – and no matter who is in charge in Washington – I will work to leave no community behind.
The impact? Maryland’s rural hospitals will lose a quarter of a billion dollars in funding and 175,000 Marylanders on Medicaid may lose their health care.
60 years ago today, President Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law. 60 years later, Congressional Republicans helped pass the largest cut to Medicaid in the program’s history. All to give millionaires and billionaires a tax cut.
I proudly signed an Executive Order to expand our Intergovernmental Commission for Agriculture. While the federal administration continues to attack Maryland’s people, farms, and economy – and raise prices on everything from fertilizer to labor rates – in Maryland we’re moving in partnership.
In the 8 years before we took office, Maryland suffered from some of the highest homicide rates the state had seen in a generation. Now, we’re seeing some of the most significant drops in violent crime in the country, including in homicides, non-fatal shootings, and carjackings.
Their new site at Tradepoint Atlantic will be home to McLaren’s first vehicle processing center in the country. It's going to help turbocharge our economic engine, and it'll show our neighbors how we're attracting foreign investment and delivering wins for our state and country.

The federal government's denial of assistance for Western Maryland is painful. But it doesn’t mean we’re going to stop fighting. Our people deserve nothing less.
Maryland has one of the top ten school systems in the entire country – and that’s no accident. Our students deserve a world-class education. Through record investments in both our educators and our students, that’s exactly what we’ve worked to deliver.
77 years ago, Pres. Truman signed the executive order ending racial segregation in our armed forces, an act that honored our nation’s pursuit to build a more perfect union. As a veteran & as Governor, I’m committed to the values instilled in me during my service: to be Mission First, People Always.
