I can’t stress how dead DC is right now. Walking down U Street before and after a movie on Labor Day weekend, and it’s about as close to a ghost town as it was during COVID.
The lack of ego Rep. Nadler is showing is a perfect example of putting service before self. This deserves so many props and respect. Thank you, @nadler.house.gov.

He played a central role in the impeachments of Donald Trump. He loudly opposed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. He repeatedly shepherded legislation intended to protect vulnerable communities. He's been the leading Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee for the better part of a decade.
Again and again, he's proudly been on the right side of history, even when it was tough.
It's unsurprising coming from a man who has spent his career fighting the good fight, from government surveillance and privacy protections to the environment to LGBTQ equality to abortion protections to voting rights to protections for immigrants to equitable health care access to labor rights.
That's what leadership looks like.
Congressman Jerry Nadler would more than likely have been reelected to an 18th full term in Congress. He's long had the support and confidence of NYC voters. Instead, he's passing the torch and doing his part to center and strengthen the next generation of Democratic leadership. (thread)
I think the US government putting out plans to ethnically cleanse Gaza is really bad. I recognize that some Americans like it, while some others think it isn't a relevant change and makes no difference, but I disagree. I think it's bad, worse than what came before.

Real talk Trump creating inroads for democrats in rural areas by tanking the economies is political suicide at a level that I don't think you can replicate. Again: it doesn't take much. A little depressed turnout, maybe 5-8% uniform swing, and suddenly you're losing Iowa and Ohio.

Good to see a bipartisan group of former CDC Directors raise alarms in the NY Times about RFK Jr. dismantling US public health. And I can’t help but feel frustrated that they didn’t do this last year when public health was on the ballot—nor did NYT frame it that way—when we had a chance to stop it.
Two things: 1) Why are the only options for websites growth that takes over everything or bust? What if users just like spending time there, at least compared to alternatives? 2) “You all must personally post better” is a silly standard that’ll never happen, and oddly doesn’t apply to other sites.
Already bad when people in your country try to get you rounded up and kicked out. A foreigner doing it, and stoking the sentiment, including with bigoted lies at scale, because his wealth and media control enables it, is insane. It’s already caused considerable harm, and appears to be getting worse.
Whoever is writing this on behalf of.. United States, I guess, doesn’t understand the main issue here - you are now explaining yourself after messing up the relations with India after DJT demanded Modi to nominate him for a Nobel peace prize for “solving the war between India and Pakistan”. SAD.
