Hey, come here, I've got something to show you. Remember a little while ago I began #drawing the frame for a deep sea siren #artwork? Well here she is! She's finally finished! ๐ Now what do I call her? She's going to need a name. I've already made for her in my #story #wip. #amwriting #BookSky
Layla Hale (@hale-the-hare.bsky.social)
I can't tell you what, but something happened that's stuck with me, and I think about it often now. I was thinking about it again, and heard branches moving, looked up. It was a Robin. I can't explain it, but it inspired me to use go back to this and start a story. I think it'll help people.
Layla Hale (@hale-the-hare.bsky.social) reply parent
Love this, seriously pure goals and I'd love to stick to it. I'm trying but 3 days shifts are a bit of a stumbling block to get around. Really need to write out a daily goal.

And hats off to a prime invention involving taters... The humble British chip.

Thank you! โค๏ธ I'm really looking forwards to seeing how it translates on paper. ๐ Was such a bizarre dream, but glad I had it. Im being extra meticulous drawing the details, want it to be as authentic and close to memory as possible.

I'm starting a new #wip... I dreamt about this beautiful alien/faerie hybrid... Now, I've no idea where she might fit into my #writing, but I'll make a home for her. ๐๐ Bare with, I'll soon turn this rough outline into something stunning. #illustration #BookSky #fantasy #art #drawing #amwriting

I've done it! I lost count of how many hours and cups of tea were involved, but I've finally finished the third map in my #worldbuilding collection! Now I just have to #write up the lore and history for it. Still not finished doing the previous write-up. ๐ #booksky #illustration #art #amwriting

I've been sick recently, so I had absolutely no energy to do any #artwork. But I had a look back through my #sketchbook, and I just don't remember #drawing this. I drew a giant deep ocean #dragon the size of a city. Look at those teeth, like a box of needles... #bluesky #fantasy #ideas #abstract

I get the feeling, the first time my blackberry plant produced an actual berry it was like a proud plant mama moment. You know the best way to pay homage to the first fruit your plant produces? Put it in a pudding. Go on. Make an apple pie, and don't be shy on the custard.

That icing looks banging though. Cupcake looks delicious.

I hope you're all having a lovely, cosy Sunday. I'm in Scarborough, 100+ miles from home, and working my 3rd 12hr shift. The sun is warm, there's a gentle breeze, I got some lovely photos of the beach... And our unofficial mascot Percy is here just chilling too. โค๏ธ #Sunday #Sundayvibes #bluesky

I love #drawing scenes and #concept #art for my #story. It's a #book, that's still very much in the making. Helps to #create a visual #prompt sometimes and then #write out and add to the #wip. Plus, I got a lovely #illustration out of it. ๐ The story is getting there! #booksky #amwriting

I mean I've heard stories of there being very experimental fashion choices in the 70's... Mate, I've just shown my mum this photo, she said this is tame compared to Vivienne Westwood. She said the moustache makes the whole thing look a bit suspect, she can't tell which direction this is going. ๐
Layla Hale (@hale-the-hare.bsky.social)
It's a bit of a bugger when I'm in the mood to do a bit of #writing, and my brain is just... Trying to get #ideas for the bit of my #book I'm stuck on. I'm proper stumped on how a conversation between an ancient forest god and a new-age deity would go. #BookSky #amwriting #fantasy #storytelling

It's been one of those weeks. Well, 2 weeks to be honest. Just been so busy with life. Haven't done much writing either... But I found a little time to draw half a map. It's come along in leaps and bounds from the last post! โค๏ธ #drawing #art #mapmaking #illustration #booksky #amwriting #fantasy

I'm loving the details on the feathers! Will it be a coloured one when it's finished or a black and white piece?
Layla Hale (@hale-the-hare.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh for sure! Get what you mean, though. I just keep adding bits and pieces of history and lore to it, and it could go on and on. I'm really having a time condensing and limiting the amount of history I'm writing for just one bit of the map.
Layla Hale (@hale-the-hare.bsky.social)
I'm #writing the #lore for my #fantasy map, but I'm finding it harder that the #drawing aspect of #worldbuilding. So far I've got... - A beach made of the granules of a dragon's body. - A noblewoman turned midwife for a Goblin queen. - A landscape formed from floating plates of meadow. #BookSky

It's been a while for me, about 3 years since and I only went for a day. Would love to go back and see more too. I think they have a museum that goes more in depth with the lives of the people. I saw the stone on the hill where they'd leave money on a stone in exchange for food.
Layla Hale (@hale-the-hare.bsky.social) reply parent
No way! Someone wrote a historical fiction about this? I've actually been to this place. Some proper ghosts there, I tell you. You can feel it in winter, there's an odd quiet. There's plaques, on the houses that people still live in to this day, naming the families who died who owned the houses.

Could we officially change the name to 'Humble Bumble'? A nod to Darwin and a cool rhyming name all in one.

So I got a bit more experimental with the glass painting, and I've decided to have a go at painting an empty gin bottle. I went for a swan and pond theme this time. ๐ Would make a good tulip vase I think. Most tulips would match the colours. #glasspainting #art #colourful #upcycle #reuse #paint

I know it doesn't look like much at this moment, but it's going to be another beautiful #map that blends in with this #book I'm #writing. I'm working my way through my #fantasy #worldbuilding like a jigsaw. It's a pretty good method TBH. ๐๐ #amwriting #storymaking #storytelling #illustration #art

I love how it seems like they're all woven from tapestry thread. It's really neat detail that ties into the myth. At least, I'm pretty sure there was a thing called the tapestry of fate in the legends.

Wish I'd grasped and took this to heart when I was younger. Shit, teenage years are rough for men and women alike, but I'm a woman, so I can only really speak from that front. You learn, though, you do, in time, who sees and loves you for the human being you are, not the delusions or expectations.

I know we are often taught to fear the concept of death. I believe it's a cultural thing. But Life and Death, have been exchanging presents, ideas and thoughts since the dawn of time. What they achieve together, is a never-ending, transformative cycle. #art #penandpencil #abstract #drawing #ink

Definitely want to find a way to Windsor one day then. I've only gotten as far as High Wycombe on my travels south. That's awesome that you played for the Royal Theatre there, not so much dealing with the plumbing problems. ๐ฅฒ

I'm going to be biased and say London, not just to hype up my home isles, but because we have so much, in and around the place, London is well connected to other areas of the UK. Try Windsor Castle or Hever Castle, I've heard they're very beautiful places.

2/2. Years ago, I read a short story set in Victorian England, about a girl who belittles her step sister, calls her a liar and tells her to prove these 'fairies' are real. It was the first story to teach me about the feral, animalistic side of the fae, and it's stuck with me ever since...
Layla Hale (@hale-the-hare.bsky.social)
This might be an out-there opinion, but I adore the idea of mixing unseen/fairy character concepts with lovecraftian/horror elements. Classic stories describe fae being capable of physics-bending, absolute mindf***ery... 1/2. #BookSky #worldbuilding #bookideas #amwriting #fantasy #storytelling

(Reupload, 1st pic was pixels.) First full section of my #fantasy map done! I remember the first notebook I had I'd begun with an island. I've begun to #write #fictional tidbits of lore for each section, feels like it's a real place! #amwriting #worldbuilding #art #story #illustration #drawing

Good luck. I think I can speak for a lot of us when I say the intense mental gymnastics of making a plan and making it work is a whole day's job. Oh! Working on something new and a bit different. I had this cool idea about a Robin and a Hare and thought I'd try it. It's Life and Death constantly exchanging gifts in the constant cycle. It's going well. Which do you think is which? ๐โ๏ธโ๏ธ #art #drawing #amwriting #abstractart #Pagan #fantasy #pen

People don't talk often enough about how literal a journey you go through when you read some books that just 'get' human experiences. Those stories are timeless, they change you a bit. Plus, if anyone can understand and enjoy them, not just the ages they were written for, then it's beyond gold.
Layla Hale (@hale-the-hare.bsky.social)
I've been working on a more intricate, #abstract #art style with #pen and #pencil. Based on more #pagan ideas and beliefs I wanted to explore. It's based on the stories and #folklore of #Ostara (Spring Equinox). I also love hares! The details took alot of time, but they're minutes worth spending.
Layla Hale (@hale-the-hare.bsky.social)
You ever get this urge when you look at something you're about to throw out and think 'that'd be a nice pot', or 'I need a place to put my stuff but would like it to look nicer?' I painted this jar with sunflowers and bees, and there's even a butterfly, too. #artsandcrafts #upcycling #painting

I started drawing fantasy maps in Uni during clinical placement. I kept these rough pen doodles in a notebook, but I wanted to remake them. So I remade it using a world map to start. It's tied to a fantasy book I've been creating for around the same amount of time. โค๏ธ #artwork #fantasy #writing
