Lethal force against a civilian vessel in international waters is a war crime if not in self-defense. If not in self-defense, only non-lethal actions, such as warning shots or disabling fire, are allowed. "Not yielding to pursuers" or "suspected of carrying drugs" doesn't carry a death sentence.

Shot of the readings & “reflections for the week” in the church bulletin. Reflection #3 is the political one: voLuke 13: 22-30 Who will be saved? This is the question posed to Jesus. The answer is not easy. Nominal membership (I call myself a Catholic) and outward belonging (but I was baptized) will not suffice. For Jesus, the one criterion for gaining final entrance into God's Kingdom is doing the will of God. It is a narrow gate, accessed only by accepting our share of the cross and there is an urgency about doing that. All those who accept Jesus, and live accordingly, will find themselves inside, while those who fail to live the call will be locked out. Reflections for the Week 1. In your life, what have been the narrow gates you have passed through? 2. When you hear the first and Gospel readings, do they challenge you to think of those you would shut out? Who are they? 3. The 1st Reading sets the scene - no nation on the earth will be excluded from the Lord's holy mountain; all will be brothers and sisters. In these days, when stories abound about people being

The Catholic Church in Rome has been insisting on calling attention to the suffering in Gaza, even if you don't hear much about it stateside. Seven hours of names: 16 Israeli children and 12,211 Palestinian children.

This week in court a white cis woman landlord started *literally crying* when I was doing my opening argument for my client and started saying to her lawyer "how is this allowed? How are these people just allowed to have a lawyer?" through tears, because evidently oppression is when due process

The 80s were the decade of Reagan, of rampant consumerism, of designer drugs and glorifying cruelty. It was the decade of teal and burgundy, and of faux gold accents. Everything you need to know about the 80s is that's the decade in which Trump's brain (such as it is) is permanently stuck.

Besides everything else, are we supposed to think that Ghislaine Maxwell is a good judge of which situations are appropriate and which are not?

Why should I write better when a machine can do it for me? Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

this country makes a lot more sense when you realize the ultimate goal for the democratic party is to stop the left from gaining power and ultimate goal for the republican party is to bring back slavery

Just read the whole, etc. "Saving even a single starving child from a sniper is infinitely more important than this issue, now and forevermore. And yet, if your first reaction was to scoff, consider this: is your name conventional?" grigorylukin.com/2025/08/21/w...
